Adam & Samantha
We are very excited to be on the adoption journey again! Our family is full of love and fun and all four of us cannot wait to include another addition to our family. We are grateful that you are looking at our profile and learning more about our family and adoption. Adoption has already been an amazing blessing in our life and we look forward to sharing our unconditional love with another miracle.
Our Children, Evie & Henry
Two very energetic, happy, and loving siblings are eagerly awaiting the next member of our family! Evie is our oldest and she was adopted from birth in 2014. Her bouncy blonde curls always bring up questions and while we love her adoption story, we smile and say they are from God when random strangers compliment them. In our home and with family and friends her story is well known and her birthmother’s name is commonly spoken. She helps pick out pictures to send as well. She is an amazing big sister and older cousin. She loves babies and helping to care for them.
Henry is our second child. He was quite the surprise since we did not think we could have biological children. He is all boy and full of energy. He can usually make us laugh and wants to be anywhere Evie is. Honestly, the two are almost polar opposites but they sure do love each other and have fun together.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
We have a few favorite vacation spots to be honest. Prior to having children, we frequented the Caribbean and Black Hills. We have been on a couple vacations with Evie and Henry now and while we still love the past locations our new favorite is anything that opens up the world for Evie and Henry. California was probably our favorite vacation thus far. Seeing the kids’ faces light up and watching them have so much fun made every day great regardless of any stress that came with traveling.
We plan to continue to travel every year or two and most of the time take the children with us. As they grow older we will pick places to match their age. We will for sure take them to the Black Hills and Caribbean. Beach vacations will most likely be a frequent destination. As they grow old enough we want to involve them in deciding where to go as well. We want them to experience as much as they can. We truly believe that experiences bring far more joy and fun than things. We cannot wait to take on more adventures as a family!
Education We will Provide
We are both first generation graduates from bachelor’s programs in our family and are so grateful to have had the opportunity to obtain this education. Education is very important to us and we have started young for both of our children. They have over 300 books already! We read to both Evie and Henry every night. Evie is not yet 4 and already starting to read herself! The plan is for our children to attend a catholic school and then they will get to choose the college they attend.
We also believe that education comes from far more than just books. Experiences, senses, and activities provide so much as well. We have memberships to the zoo and children’s museum. Outside play at home or the park are encouraged regularly. Evie participates in extra programs at daycare such as dance and a program called TOTS. Extracurricular activities of each child’s choice will be supported and encouraged throughout their schooling. As parents we will help them to experience the world through travel as well.
Our Extended Families
We kind of have three extended families. We have Adam’s side, Samantha’s side, and a group of friends that make up our own self-created family. All three are full of fun, love, and laughter of course and there are special times set aside to enjoy each group. Often times they even blend together!
Both of us were raised in traditional farm community homes. Adam has a sister and brother and Samantha has a sister. Our children have been the only little ones until last September when Samantha’s sister and brother-in-law welcomed their first. Both of our childhoods were filled with family gatherings and TONS of cousins (50+ combined). While we won’t reach those numbers, we are excited to continue the traditions of these gatherings.
The group of friends that we consider a family is very important to us. Many of us attended high school and/or college together and never lost touch. We have been in each other’s weddings and we are Aunts and Uncles to each other’s kids. One of our favorite traditions is our summer weekend together. The date and location is always planned in late winter and then eager anticipation grows as the date draws near. Everyone makes this a priority on their summer calendar. This group so far includes about 10 “cousins” for our little ones to grow up with.
Our House and Neighborhood
We just moved back to our home town in northern Iowa. It is a farming and very family friendly community. We are all very excited to be back and close to family and close friends. There are tons of young families and a park that is walking distance, which we plan to frequent in nice weather. The grade school we attended is only minutes away, too! We have a little pool, water table, a swing and small slide all for outdoor fun. We also have a great two-level deck and patio with fire pit. We are so looking forward to hosting summer nights in the back yard.
In the winter we head up to Samantha’s parents’ farm for some sledding and snow mobiles. Both sets of grandparents are now less than a half hour drive away. We get drop in visits on the regular already. Aunts, uncles, and cousins are also close by in abundance, too.
Our church is only minutes away, attached to the grade school. Church is a very important part of our greater community and we plan to be active in the parish once we get settled a bit more. Many of the families have welcomed us back to the area with big hugs and lots of love.
We also have a community aquatics center, library, parks, skate park, movie theater, and a couple state parks in the community. Within only a couple hour drive, we have a zoo, children’s museum, arena, and theater. We are excited to attend more plays and performances as the kids get older.
From Us to You
What a journey you are on! Finding out that you are responsible for a little miracle and then educating yourself to determine what you feel to be the best way for that little one to grow. You are doing great! God is with you and we are praying for you. We have been praying for you since we started our journey to adoption and parenthood the first time.
We are Adam and Samantha and we have been a couple since high school (we are now 30). Fourteen years and going strong! We have been married for 8 of those years and we have been blessed with two wonderful children. Our oldest, Evie, was a blessing through adoption and our youngest, Henry, was a blessing through biological birth. We are so excited to grow our family more and while Evie and Henry do not really know/understand that we have started this process Evie regularly confirms that she wants another sibling and Henry has recently started taking care of Evie’s baby dolls. Every night our home is filled with laughter and our time before bed is focused on time with our children. Adding more love, more bedtime stories, and more hugs and kisses couldn’t sound better.
Our foundation is strong. We have known each other for at least 20 years and were very good friends before we dated. Our families also know each other well, as we grew up in a small farming community. We are country grown, so to speak, and have a great love for family and strong moral guidance. We have been through good and bad but hung on to each other always walking the path together. Our faith is strong and every day we are reminded that God has a plan and He has proven several times that His plan is better than ours.
Every day we are so thankful to be parents. The struggle to become parents definitely taught us so much about not taking time with your children for granted. Our favorite times with them are teaching them about the world and seeing their excitement when they have mastered a new skill. Our lives are fuller, happier, and significantly more entertaining with them. Every day brings something new to make us laugh and keep us on our toes. Parenthood is one of the hardest but most rewarding adventures of our lives and it is an adventure we love being on together.
We are grateful that you have taken the time to look at our profile. We are very excited about another adoption! We currently send letters and pictures every 6 months with Evie’s birth mother. We also email and text on occasion. This is something we are very comfortable doing with you as well, if you like. If you wish to grow our relationship further we are open to that as well. We hope our profile has provided you with answers to as many questions as you may have about our family. We are happy to provide more if you would like. We hope to hear from you soon!
