Nathan & Wendy
We are very grateful and excited to have an opportunity to adopt. We are looking forward to many learning experiences in becoming parents, as well as watching a child thrive exploring the world. We look forward to sharing our life experiences and the love we share for each other with a newborn child. Hopefully we will have the chance to meet and share the journey with you.
Adoption in Our Lives
Adoption is already a very large part of our family. When Wendy was in high school, her older sister, Steph, discovered she was pregnant and had a son. When Steph's son was six years old, the biological father (who was now married and had other children) contacted Steph and offered to raise the child with his wife. Wendy saw how Steph had a very difficult decision to make. After careful consideration for her son's future, Steph decided to give parental rights to the couple. Although the decision was difficult, Steph's son was able to grow up in a house with two half brothers, a stay-at-home mom and many school years playing sports in a quiet community. Her son has since gone to college and recently got married. Today, Steph and her son have a very close relationship and keep in touch often.
Five years after her son's adoption, Wendy learned her sister was pregnant with her second child, a daughter. Steph knew this time that adoption was the right choice. Wendy understood the circumstances, and agreed that adoption was the best choice for both mother and child. Steph's daughter also had a happy and healthy childhood. Steph reconnected with her daughter as a teenager, and has stayed in contact. Wendy has seen, with both of her sister's adoptions, the happiness that adoption can bring to all involved.
Our lifestyle is adventurous and relaxing. We enjoy exploring new places, events, and cultures. Part of the enjoyment to the destination is the path to reach it, by way of car, plane, or boat, since you come across surprises in change of landscape, weather or plans.
When not being adventurous on vacation or weekends we like to see musicals at the many local theaters. There is always a variety of shows to choose from throughout the year. Each year we support the local theater's youth program called "Rising Star." The program enables many young people interested in theater training during the summer.
We really enjoy down time at home most weekends. We enjoy playing a board game, watching new movies and catching up with family. Nathan loves to cook and Wendy enjoys crafts. Sometimes Nathan's parents will come to our house for dinner. No matter what task we are doing, or where we are, we enjoy the time we have to spend with each other. In the end, our time together, and time with family is the most important to us.
We are both curious people, and like to learn about the world. We have friends and coworkers from many different cultures, China, Haiti, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Columbia, Italy, Ethiopia, Iran, Pakistan and others.
Occasionally, Nathan has to travel for work, and when he does, he tries to learn some of the local language and their customs to fit in better and be respectful of their ways of life.
When we have a child, we will definitely expose them to other cultures, especially if their heritage is different than our own. If that happens, we will learn more about that culture, and celebrate some of its holidays with our child, share some of the culture's language, eat some of the cultures food, and keep it in all of our lives. The differences in all of us make the world an interesting place to live, and we can all learn from each other.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in western Washington state, the Evergreen State, in a quiet suburb on a street ending in a cul-de-sac. Our house is split level with a finished basement and standard windows to view the yard. We have four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Our backyard view is a beautiful expansive undeveloped, protected forest. One of our favorite rooms is the living room where we can enjoy full sun streaming through our three tall windows and view our garden area and lawn. There are a few young children in our neighborhood and many parks near our house.
Many parks have coastal water views with naval ships occasionally in the background. A park down the road from us has quarterly publications of many child activities including swimming, gymnastics, soccer and a few preschool classes with arts, crafts, songs and games. There is also an annual animal farm where everyone can pet and brush a few animals.
Our Extended Families
Nathan has a younger brother, Jon, and Wendy has an older sister, Steph. Jon is recently married, and hasn't started a family yet. Steph has two children who she placed for adoption when they were young. In recent years, both children have reconnected with her, and she is extremely happy with the life they each have been given.
Nathan's parents were so excited when they were told we were adopting, that they moved from Michigan to Washington to be with their future grandchild. Wendy's mother lives in Florida with her sister, her father in Arkansas, and her Step-mother in Indiana.
Nathan's Grandmother on his mother's side is still living, and that is the side of the family who we spend most of our holiday's with. Prior to having a child, we would always spend Christmas in Virginia at Nathan's Grandpa's cottage or in Michigan.
We love traveling as a family and visiting new places. A couple years ago, a few of us went to Europe for two weeks.
Everyone we have told about our plan to adopt has been excited and supportive of us.
From Us to You
We are Wendy and Nathan and we are grateful to you for taking the time to look at our profile and read this letter.
We met each other later in life, and knew very soon after we were married that we wanted to have a family. We met six years ago and were married four years ago. For the past three years we have been trying to have a child. For two of those years we underwent infertility treatments. Twice we have thought, "Yes, this is it!" But twice we suffered a loss. Before we had even started the treatments, we started discussing adoption as an option for our future. We knew we wanted to raise children, even if we could not conceive. We now know that adoption is the path we are meant to be on and we are so excited to see where this journey takes us!
We want to raise a child to share our knowledge and experience with. To show them the world and the good that is in it. We enjoy travelling and going on little adventures, going to areas around our state and around the country, when we can, to find hidden gems. A couple weekends ago we went to the western-most point in the continental United States. Being on sandy beaches, watching the waves and seeing the forest behind us at the same time was quite a beautiful sight. We are both very curious people and like to learn about all kinds new things. We hope to pass on that love of learning to our child.
We live in a great part of the country, Western Washington state. There are beautiful mountains, lush forests, and water all around for experiencing nature. We enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors. The metropolis of Seattle is nearby for art, culture, and sporting events. We especially enjoy going to musicals in the many theaters around.
We live in one of the best school districts in the state, with a lot of diversity. We live on a quiet street with a greenbelt behind the house. Wendy keeps a garden in the backyard and loves to feed the birds. There is a lot of wildlife that hangs out back there. Our cats especially like watching the squirrels run around chasing each other in the backyard and waiting for birds to drop nuts.
If you choose us as adoptive parents, we want you to know that you will be a part of our family, too. We will send letters and photos of your child to keep you updated on how they are growing. We are open to having email communication, and even some visits with the child.
We hope you will consider us to be the parents of your child. This would make us very happy, and allow us to grow our family and make our dreams come true. Every single person we have told about our decision to adopt a child has been so supportive and happy for us. We are so excited for the next step in this journey to become a family.
Thank you for considering us,
Nathan & Wendy
