Michael & Tracy
Thank you for taking the time to read our profile. We have been looking forward to being parents for a long time, and we know that adoption is our best avenue. We look forward to sharing our lives and varied interests with a child. You would be giving a gift beyond measure, choosing us to be the parents to your child. We look forward to years of laughter and love.
Our Leisure Time
Thanks to the good fortune of living where we do, we do not lack for opportunities for leisure activities. We both brought varied hobbies and interests to our family, and we are ready to share those with our child.
Starting at home, we have several pockets of native plants, around an open yard that our dogs use for exercise and play. Maintaining a welcoming environment for birds, butterflies, and wildlife to feed and shelter in provides an incredible opportunity for learning and stewardship, right out the back door. The trees in our backyard may just have room for a treehouse or a jungle gym, for enjoying play and fresh air.
Our pets have led us to a world of things to do. Walking the dogs is a daily event, and that goes both for at home and at a local animal shelter. Tracy volunteers by walking homeless dogs and caring for them with extra play. We want our child to learn to appreciate the value of all life. When weather and time permits, we enjoy exploring local conservation areas and going on hikes with our dogs, Blanco and Ziggy.
There is a long public trail that borders our property line, leading to a wildlife park and several community centers, all within a mile of our home. Tracy has been a swimmer all of her life, and she hopes our child enjoys learning to swim. The neighborhood pool has a lane pool she uses during the summer and a lazy river that we enjoy floating along during the summer.
Addressing Cultural Diversity
Within the metropolitan area where we live, there are communities of people from around the world, and they have brought their varied cultures with them. The annual Festival of Nations is a recognition of the cultural variety of our area. Also, there are monuments and parks dedicated to the centuries of history of our region.
We look forward to the many regular cultural celebrations that occur: Japanese, Chinese, Greek, Middle Eastern, African-American, Native American ... the list goes on. These events are family friendly, and we feel lucky to have these to share with our child.
With the variety of cultures comes a variety of restaurants that focus on ethnic cuisines, as well as many styles of music that are available to us on a weekly basis. We celebrate how fortunate we are to have all of this to enjoy and to share.
We constantly look to broaden our experiences, when it comes to culture and heritage of all peoples. We hope to instill in our child the same drive to cross borders and divides, because life is bigger than a block or a zip code.
Adoption in Our Lives
Michael: Before this year, neither of us could say much personally about adoption. Both Tracy and I grew up as only children, and neither of us had any memorable experiences with adoption.
One month ago, I learned that I have a half-brother. He is a brother to be proud of, a police officer in Spokane, with a wonderful family with three grown children all following very high callings. He was adopted, in 1961, in what is now my home town. Last year, he started searching for his birth parents. He went through a popular genealogy site, and that led him to his mother's other son, me.
Once we started communicating online, he told me that he wished that he could have told my mother "Thank you," for placing him for adoption, because he had led an incredible life with his adoptive family, loved and supported in all ways.
Since we connected online, his wife and my wife have become an part of our conversation, and we are planning on getting together. They have also become part of our adoption journey, in that they are ready to be aunt and uncle to our child, since that is exactly what they are, thanks to my mother choosing to pause her life for a year, so that she could bring my brother into the world.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a suburban neighborhood, quiet and peaceful, outside of a major Midwestern city. We bought our home two years ago, in part because it was in an excellent school district, after falling in love with the backyard, which borders on an eight-mile paved trail, where we enjoy riding our bikes and walking our dogs.
The subdivision we live in is very family friendly, with low traffic volume and large yards for play. The resources in the surrounding community include city, county, and state parks, public aquatic centers, libraries, and mixed-use trails. Throughout the year there are community events, suitable to children of all ages. There are a number of natural areas, within a short drive's distance, that are full of opportunities for learning and exploration.
Our three-bedroom home has plenty of room for our child. Our favorite room is our living room with the fireplace and a wall full of musical instruments. The neat thing is that the living room, dining area, and kitchen are all open and connected to each other so when we have people over we can all be together. We have floor to ceiling windows which allow us to enjoy watching the birds visit the feeders. In the winter we like sitting by the fireplace, with our dogs and reading a good book or putting together a puzzle. In the warmer months, our yard is a welcoming retreat to enjoy and to share.
Our Extended Families
Music and dance are a huge part of our lives and we can't wait to share those things with our child. Our favorite thing to do is invite friends over to our house for a potluck. As friends arrive they put food down on our big dining room table and then head back to our guest room to put down their instrument case. After dinner, the instruments come out, music fills our home, and the dancing begins!
Our family is small but mighty. Tracy's relatives live just over four hours away and we enjoy visiting them for long weekend trips around Thanksgiving and Labor Day and throughout the summer for pool parties and barbecues. Some of Michael's relatives are 4 hours away, and many live on the East Coast, waiting for us to fly out and visit.
We have each lived in the same Midwestern city for almost 20 years. Over that time have built for ourselves a family of choice filled with wonderful friends, their kids, and their relatives. We have no shortage of places to go to celebrate holidays and happy occasions when we are unable to head out of town to see Tracy's family. Since so many of our friends have small kids whose lives we have been a part of since they were born, we have been an honorary aunt and uncle for some time now and we are excited that our child will have lots "cousins" to grow up with.
From Us to You
Hi! We are Michael and Tracy and we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to read our profile.
In November 2013, we "met" one another on a dance floor in a cozy town along a beautiful river road. Michael was playing fiddle with his band, making music for a group of dancers. While Michael played, he couldn't help notice a tall woman twirling around the room. Tracy, on the other hand, didn't really notice Michael but did notice that the bassist in the band looked like Santa Claus. When Tracy got home, she liked the band, and, through the magic of Facebook within a month we got together for our first date, listening to a musician friend of Tracy's. Since then, our life has had music and dance in it every week.
We married in July, 2017 and immediately started trying to grow our family. Unfortunately, we are childless through what solutions we've tried, and we have set upon adoption as the way that we can fulfill our desire for a child to raise. We know that we have an incredible amount of love and care to give, and we are ready to offer that to your child, wholly and freely. We have continued to make choices in our life to prepare for the arrival of a child, with every long term decision being made with a young life in mind.
The life we have to offer your child is one full of learning and experience. Our household at present consists of the two of us, two cats, and two dogs, and the space we do see around our full house is exactly where we see a child fitting in. Our home has a wonderful yard, full of an expanding native garden that we are designing to attract butterflies with room for chickens in the back corner and a large tree that would be perfect for a swing and a treehouse. Our neighbors are friendly, and many young families live nearby. We chose the area we live in with the forethought of being in an exceptional school district, for our child. Every week we learn of more and more opportunities for learning about our community, our area, our environment, and we would thrive, sharing these with a young child at the start of their long life.
Tracy is captivated with recording our lives in pictures. She loves sharing incredible moments of our lives with our friends. And we know that raising a child will be one incredible moment after another, and we will be more than happy to share that journey with you, in pictures and emails. It is our intent to share our child's adoption story with them from the beginning, before the difficult questions develop, and to make knowing about you and your story a natural part of life. It is our hope that some day, emails and texts might come from them to you, so that their life can be shared with you directly.
Thank you so much for reading this letter. We appreciate that the decision you are making is very difficult, and your heart must be full of questions about the where your child will end up. We hope you see that the life we offer your child will be full of love and learning, with unexpected opportunities to grow and live a full, happy life, surrounded by family and friends that will love and cherish them. We offer our whole hearts, to raise your child as ours, and to share their life with you.
Thank you again,
Michael & Tracy
