Adoption in Our Lives

Our Family

Adoption is not new to our family. We were blessed to become Cameron's adoptive parents in 2016. It was a long and sometimes difficult journey to finally adopt Cameron but it was well worth it. He has been a huge blessing for us and our families and continues to fill our home with laughter and joy. In the end we know that adoption was what was meant to be for us to build our family.

In addition to Cameron, Lisa's father was adopted at a young age and several family friends have adopted children over the years. With adoption being a constant in Lisa's life, she has already seen how adoption is a great way to build a family. She understands that a child's adoption story is ongoing, and that honesty and openness with the child is beneficial to their development. Our family embraces the prospect of welcoming a new addition to the family through this adoption process.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot

Striking a Pose With Pluto

Disney, Disney and more Disney! Lisa grew up loving Disneyland and even though she lived in Hawaii, her family would take frequent trips to one of the many Disney parks at least once a year. With this love for Disney, our family still carries on this tradition to travel to the Disney parks for some good times and great memories nearly every year. The latest memory is Cameron's first trip to Disneyland, where he loved the rides and the parades and most of all meeting all the Disney characters. We love the parks as adults but now being able to see the parks through a child's perspective is very rewarding. We also have our traditions at Disney such as eating a Mickey ice cream bar and having breakfast with the Disney characters. Disney has always given us a lot of great memories and cherished family time!

Cultural Diversity

We want what is best for a child and we believe that teaching the child about their cultural background shows that we respect and care about who they are as a person. Although Cameron is still very young we are always looking for ways to teach him about his culture whether it is through children books, interactions with our friends or just exposing him to significant African Americans in history. We look forward to Cameron's future where we as a family can learn even more about his culture.

We are also blessed to have a transracial family and are very fortunate to live in Hawaii where diversity is very common. Hawaii is a melting pot of diversity and it is even more present in Lisa's family. Lisa is biracial (Caucasian/Japanese) and Lisa's nieces have over 4 different ethnicities. Our friends are also a large mix of ethnicities. Having the ability to be exposed to all cultures helps cultivate acceptance and love for all races and that is really why Hawaii is really special place for us to raise our children.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a single family home with three bedrooms and two baths. Our favorite part of our house is the yard. Living in Hawaii we enjoy great weather year round so playing outside on the jungle gym, enjoying pool time or just relaxing in the patio are regular favorites. We also love our home because there is ample room for get-togethers with our family and friends. The kids have lots of room to run and play.

We live in a very family oriented neighborhood. We have several popular parks and community recreation centers that are less than a five-minute walk. The nearby schools are a part of an award winning district. The community puts on regular family events like "movie at the pool" and concerts that are centered around kids. One of our favorites in the community is "Snow Day." Since Hawaii doesn't have snow, they bring in truckloads of snow and create a winter wonderland for the children. We are excited that the community offers a lot of activities for kids like organized sports (soccer, baseball, and any number of other sports), arts and craft classes and swimming lessons. We are also blessed that our neighborhood is a short drive to anywhere on the island, especially our favorite beaches and hiking spots.

Our Extended Families

With Lisa's Family

We are both blessed to have families that are both supportive and loving throughout our lives. Chris’ immediate family lives in Illinois and although we live in Hawaii, we make it a point to FaceTime or Skype with them regularly. Chris' family also makes the effort to come to Hawaii, recently they came to celebrate Cameron's first birthday. We have also traveled to Illinois to see them and are planning our first trip with Cameron soon.

Chris With His Sister, Mom & Nephew

Lisa's immediate family lives within a few miles of us which makes its so easy to spend time together whether its going to support our nieces sporting events to having our weekly family dinner. Having family so close also allows us to enjoy the holidays together. Whether it's decorating cookies for Christmas or our mochi-making (a Japanese dessert) party for New Years, the holidays are filled with traditions and good times all around.

Our family has been our support and encouragement though our adoption journey. With the arrival of our son Cameron, both of our families welcomed him with open arms. Lisa's parents were quick to offer their babysitting services for Cameron when Chris and Lisa are at work. The bond between Lisa's parents (Nana and Papa) and Cameron is priceless. Our families are just as excited as us to continue expanding our family and are looking forward to a new addition.

From Us to You

We are so grateful to have this opportunity to express how thankful we are about adoption. We have been blessed with a wonderful son Cameron through adoption and we hope that you will consider us as adoptive parents for your child.

We will welcome this child with open arms and at the same time we want to make sure you are comfortable during this adoption process. We hope our profile gives you an idea of what is important to us, and what we offer as parents.

We met almost 16 years ago through a mutual friend's spaghetti party and that night started our lives together. We dated for about two years and were engaged for one year. We were married in 2006 surrounded by our family and friends. After 10 years of marriage we were blessed with our son Cameron.

Lisa was born and raised in Hawaii and Chris moved to Hawaii in 1998. We both love living in Hawaii and not just for its great weather but how diverse our state is. We are able to enjoy a melting pot of ethnicities and embrace our differences. Our families are very supportive of us and we are so blessed to have a great support system. Our community is very family oriented and the schools are one of the best in the state which goes hand in hand with our philosophy that knowledge is power. Our home is a gathering place for many family get-togethers and we love to spend our downtime enjoying our outdoor spaces. We installed a large playset for Cameron which he plays on regularly, allowing us to enjoy the outdoors even more.

We are a very outdoorsy family. Whether it is on our own or with family and friends we love to be out and about. Our favorite things to do for family time are hiking, going to the beach and most of all family dinners. Even though we live on an island we make it a priority to travel outside of Hawaii and to create new experiences on our travels.

Our family also has a lot of traditions, we always love getting together for the big holidays but we also have our annual pumpkin carving get together, mochi (a Japanese dessert) making gathering for New Years, cookie decorating for Christmas and our annual staycation at a local resort for the Fourth of July for fireworks!

We hope to be given an opportunity to share our lives with another child and we look forward to sharing updates with you about the child throughout their life. If we are chosen, we hope to work with you regarding the level of contact that you are comfortable. We will send updates and pictures of the child as long as you desire and will always respect your privacy.

Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to share our lives with you during this important decision. No matter what your decision may be, we wish you the best and honor your courage through this process.
