Doug & Janet
Welcome to our profile! Thank you for considering us- we are thrilled to start the process of expanding our family. We have so much love and joy to share with a child. As we move forward, we are mindful of your strength and generosity and hope our profile gives you a good look at our family, our home, and the love we have to share.
Adoption in Our Lives
Doug was adopted as an infant and has seen firsthand how a family can be created through this wonderful process. Doug and his sister – who is also adopted - have always known they were adopted and their parents have always been open with them and willing to answer any questions regarding their adoption. This is why when it was time to start a family, adoption seemed like the best and obvious choice for us. We adopted our son, Owen, at birth in 2015. Being his parents has been the single most important and rewarding thing we have ever done. We always dreamed of having a family, and our dreams came true when he came into our life. He has brought so much love and joy into our home. We can't wait to build upon that foundation, and Owen looks forward to having a little brother or sister. He sometimes holds his stuffed animals and calls them his baby, and he even pretended to change Scooby Doo's diaper the other day. Adopting this child will truly make our family complete!
What Makes Us Unique
Although it's not as rare as it once was, Doug is a stay-at-home dad. It just made sense for our family when Owen was born. Janet is an attorney who has worked for the same law firm for 15 years and had met many of her professional goals, and continuing to work as an attorney was the best way to continue that work and support our family. Doug, while also having achieved many professional goals as a salesman, is a nurturer and born family man.
Doug has a special bond with our son that not many fathers get to share. We are very fortunate that we are able to provide a comfortable home where one of us is always there to make a meal, go to the playground, give a hug, kiss a boo boo, and play lots of games. We cannot wait to share our blessings and grow our family.
Education We Will Provide
As parents, education is a priority. We hope to provide the best education to our children given his or her interests and abilities. We realize that not all kids are going to be straight-A students or bookworms. We also know that not all kids share the same interests as their parents. We intend to shape our child's education around what will help him or her succeed, and around what they are interested in and how they learn. We will always encourage him or her to pursue their interests.
We are both college graduates and plan to keep an open mind about post high school possibilities for this child. We will support him or her in whatever path they choose. We both have family military backgrounds that have provided us with a different perspective of furthering an education. We hope to provide this child with access to whatever will allow him or her to learn, grow, and succeed in the future.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our home is in a metropolitan area and we are near all of the good that cities have to offer while keeping the benefit of having farms, lakes and beaches within a short drive. We enjoy the seemingly endless choices of restaurants and cultural events paired with the ease of getting away from it all.
We live in a three bedroom house on a residential street in the city. We have a yard large enough to accommodate us humans and our dog, each having a separate area to play. The bedrooms are large with plenty space to play and the open floor plan between the kitchen and dining room allows for big family dinners. There is also a separate office for studying and a nice open living area for entertainment. Doug loves to decorate the house for holidays, and depending on the time of year, you may find different flags, lights, and other decorations out front.
Within walking distance of our house you'll find many parks, bike paths, and sports fields. Schools in our community offer programs such as foreign language immersion and music curriculum in addition to a quality traditional education. Also, we live near two major universities that offer programs for kids, such as science camps, swimming and summer camps. It's the perfect place to raise a child!
Our Extended Families
Even though we do not live near our families, we remain incredibly close. Our two sets of parents combine to have over 80 years of marriage! We unfortunately lost Doug's father in 2011, but remain in close touch with his mother visiting or receiving her visit throughout the year. Janet's parents also love to visit and we never seem to have a chance to miss each other. In fact, we are all able to keep in touch on a daily basis with phone calls, Skype and Face Time.
Beyond having awesome sets of parents waiting to become grandparents, we have uncles, aunts, and cousins awaiting this wonderful addition to our family. Each year for the 4th of July the whole family unites at the beach to barbecue together and enjoy the fireworks. We also fit our love of travel in with our family and make plans to take a yearly trip together.
Our son has also developed a close relationship with his godparents. They come over nearly every weekend and love to spoil him, play games, and teach him jokes. We often have a big family dinner and watch a new movie each week. We can't wait to share these wonderful traditions with a little one!
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. As you go through this emotional process, we are honored that you will consider us as the right family to adopt your baby. We understand the difficult decision you are considering and we respect and admire your decision to consider making an adoption plan.
We are an outgoing and fun-loving couple with two distinct personalities. Doug is the laid back one while Janet is more of a planner. We complement each other well and make a great team. For fun we enjoy traveling outside our city as well as exploring new parks, bike trails, and walking paths while in our hometown. Of course, the addition of our son a few years ago just added more joy and fun to our adventures. Most weekends you'll find us having a Saturday adventure followed by relaxing with friends while making a big Sunday dinner.
Janet wondered if she would ever marry or have a family until she met Doug. The desire was always there, but it hadn't happened yet and at the time she was focused on her career as a lawyer. Doug had not yet met his true love either and had just relocated to our current city, wondering if his soul mate was out there. The two of us met through an online dating site nine years ago and our world changed quickly. We became best friends and were engaged a year later, married a year following that. Today we remain a committed loving and loyal couple that shares the joys of life. We are the lucky couple that is blessed to enjoy our differences, but are happy that we share so many similar opinions and experiences.
As our relationship grew we also spent a lot of time with family and friends, along with their children. It was during these treasured moments that we decided the only thing missing in our relationship was a family of our own. We tried to start that family the usual way with no success. After consulting with our doctors and reviewing the options available for us to start a family we decided that adoption was the perfect choice. The fact that Doug was adopted helped make this decision an easy one! This choice resulted in the adoption of our son in 2015. There is no single thing more important in our lives than his mother's decision to choose us to parent Owen. We look forward to the opportunity to get to know you and hope that our family fits with your hopes and dreams for your baby.
Aside from the joy we know a child will bring, we also look forward to creating a safe and happy home environment for her/him. We of course look forward to keeping you up to date on the narrative of our child's life. We will definitely ensure that our child is aware of the great sacrifice you made and that your decision was made ultimately out of love.
Wishing you all the best,
Doug & Janet
