Why We Chose Adoption

Our Family at a Fall Festival

We are blessed to have two wonderful children—twins Sam (boy) and Avery (girl). We have had a wonderful eight years together. Sam loves basketball, tennis, inventing and having his friends over to have Nerf gun battles. Avery loves singing, arts, horses, and reading, and also loves spending time with her friends. They both enjoy spending time together, especially outdoors exploring the woods in our backyard. They both admire their teachers and classmates and look forward to going to school each day. As older cousins, we have watched them interact with their younger cousins with kindness and patience, and have watched them have fun and also care for them when they needed help. We believe that they would both each fill their role as big brother and big sister wonderfully and will really enjoy having a little sibling in the home.

Adoption is something that always held a special place in our hearts. As we grew in our parenthood journey, we knew early on that we wanted more children. However, we had trouble getting pregnant, so we decided to foster to adopt. We fostered a little girl for 10 months before she was reunited with her father. Even though that particular adoption opportunity turned out differently than anticipated, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to grow our family through adoption now. We both have close friends as well as family members who are adopted. We also have several close friends who have recently adopted and have witnessed how wonderful it can be.

Our Family Traditions

Matching PJs With Gracie

We love participating in regular traditions and are always looking to add new ones. During the fall season, we host a friends/family hayrack ride along with pumpkin carving. At Christmas time, we go caroling in our neighborhood and deliver goodies to our family and friends. The day after thanksgiving we decorate our tree, unwrap matching pajamas, open a new Christmas movie and book and start the season off with the Christmas story and hot cocoa. Each year on Mayday, we deliver May baskets around town. At the end of each school year we host a pool party for some of Sam and Avery's classmates.

On a more normal routine, we read books together as a family, go to church on Sundays, serve the widows of our church on a monthly basis, have movie nights on the weekend during the winter months and are often roasting marshmallows in the spring and fall seasons at our firepit. At least twice a year we take family vacations, preferably road trips to different parts of the country but sometimes revisiting our favorite places.

Type of Education We Will Provide

Exploring Our State Capitol

Education is a high priority in our home. Our children attend a wonderful Christian school that provides an excellent education. This includes wonderful teachers and small class sizes, and of course we would plan on the same school for our adopted child. We truly hope that all of our children will attend college, if they are interested. If they are interested in any type of graduate school beyond college, then that would be encouraged as well. Currently, we always make it a priority to spend individual time with each child on a nightly basis to help them understand concepts from school. Additionally, we make it a priority to read out loud to our children as much as possible. We also work with them throughout the week to help them improve their reading skills. We believe that children who regularly have individual time working on school work and reading with their parents have a much higher chance of doing well in school, and that the time invested will reap rewards from Kindergarten through college and beyond. We look forward to walking with the our next child through their education and support them just as much as we have supported Sam and Avery.

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

Living in Kansas has the great benefit of enjoying all four seasons and seeing beautiful sunrises and sunsets every day, a reminder of God's faithfulness. Our four-bedroom home has lots of space to be creative and playful with siblings, but each child has their own room for independent play as well. Our favorite place to spend time together is on our back deck, eating dinner, reading or watching the sun set during the spring and summer months. Our home is set on a three-acre wooded lot with a pool, with plenty of space to explore, take part in many adventures and ride bikes. We have a hill that in the summer time we use to make a giant slip-and-slide and then we use it for sledding during the winter. We live on a cul-de-sac and our neighbors enjoy seeing the kids riding their bikes in our neighborhood. We love going on walks and especially taking treats to our neighbors.

Our medium size town has a great zoo, hot air balloon festival each year, pumpkin patches, children's museum, lots of parks, recreation facilities to promote sports and arts, holiday parades, children's art lab and the 4-H fair each summer. Having children has opened us up to all the possibilities in and around our city and we look forward to making more memories!

Our Extended Families

Thanksgiving With Family

We are very blessed to have both sides of our families living close by. Tyler's parents, Mimi and Papa, along with his sister and brother and their families, live in the same town as we do, totaling 17 in all! We celebrate each and every birthday intentionally as to communicate that every person is special and a needed part of our family. One special tradition Mimi started when Tyler was a boy, is that for every year you turn, you receive that many one dollar bills followed by everyone counting along with you (for the older ones, this takes a while!). In addition, our families spend a lot of time together riding four-wheelers, swimming in our pool and celebrating all the holidays!

Time With Nana & Grandpa

Angela is one of four daughters and has a close friendship with each of her sisters. Most of her family is sprinkled throughout Kansas but close enough to see each other on a monthly basis. One of our fun Christmas traditions is for our boy/girl twins, who are a couple of years older than their cousins, dress up as Santa's elves and bring presents to the younger cousins. This is just as much fun for the kids as it is for the adults! With this side of the family, we spend a lot of time together playing outside, making a slip-and-slide during the summer and sledding in the snow during the winter months. We are excited to share our family with your child!

From Us to You

Thank you for taking time to read this letter. Before we plunge into a letter about who we are, we want you to know that we believe that you are loved by God and we want you to know that you are respected by us. Having children, we know that putting the needs of children before our own is a daily choice and the fact that you are considering making an adoption plan is remarkable, selfless and brave. In addition, we could not have made the choice to move forward with adoption without the leading and loving care of Christ, who is at the center of this decision. We have spent many hours talking, discussing, praying, gaining insight and being thoughtful about increasing our family. We are beyond thrilled to meet our next child, to welcome him/her into our home and life. We can't wait to love them deeply, equip them for their specific story, protect them, watch them grow, and lead them through life.

To sum up our family, we would say we are faithful to one another, love to have fun, enjoy spending time together, and appreciate the outdoors. Our home sits on three acres and all of us enjoy riding bikes, going on walks, swimming in our pool, roasting marshmallows on the fire pit, going on adventures in our woods, sledding down our hill, playing sports in the driveway, having a continual stream of friends and family in and out of our home and sitting on our deck or porch listening to the quietness of the outdoors. We strongly believe that experiencing life together keeps us together. Another way do this is by going on yearly vacations. We love to explore new places but also appreciate the comfort of somewhere already traveled. This year we went on a canoeing/camping trip with 10 other families from our church. We also traveled to Florida and now we are planning another family trip this summer to somewhere new. We also love traveling to see Angela's parents who live on a farm where we fish, drive tractors, and help with the garden.

In our daily routine we read to our children, work on homework, eat dinner together, attend church weekly, work on family projects, serve together and just hang out in our home for some downtime together. We also enjoy teaching our kids life skills like cooking, yard work, weekly chores, gardening, and many other life giving tools as they grow. We value spending individual time with each child and make it a priority to have one-on-one time with each child regularly.

As we welcome a new child into our home, we want to make sure you know that you will not be forgotten. We fully intend to communicate with you with emails, pictures and even visits if that is something you would like. One day, our child will want to know all the details of their birth parents and we want to make sure we have as many answers as possible. We intend to take an approach of openness and honesty. Whether it's our family or another family you choose, we are praying for God to give you the peace and direction for your baby to be placed. Thank you again for taking the time to read our letter.

With Christ's love,

Tyler & Angela
