Joshua & Rachael
We would like to humbly thank you for taking the time to review our profile. We consider our role as parents to be one of the greatest privileges we have. It has been our hope to expand our family for quite some time and will provide unconditional love to this child and invite you to join us on our journey of becoming a family.
Why We Chose Adoption
We have a 10-year-old daughter named Sophia and a 6-year-old son named Griffin. Many ask why we, as a family, have chosen our journey towards adoption. We knew our plan was to have a large family from the beginning of our relationship. Joshua being from a family of four siblings, and Rachael always wanting a large family to love unconditionally. However, after what felt like a normal pregnancy to Rachael, Griffin came into the world 13 weeks early weighing 1.10 lbs. After 97 long days and nights in the hospital visiting with numerous specialists, we came to the realization and understanding that Griffin's prematurity was due to a genetic mutation that Joshua carries. Doctors had told us that we were lucky to have two healthy children and that we should just give up on the dream of having three or more children. However, we know that our family is not yet complete. This is what leads us to you today—from the day that Griffin was born we have had a desire to grow our family, by whatever means are possible.
Both Sophia and Griffin are very active children. Sophia is our little swimmer, she is on the competitive swim team in our hometown and enjoys the pool or beach any chance she can. She also participates in Girls on the Run, which is a program aimed at empowering girls. Both, her and Josh have ran multiple 5K's together. Griffin's favorite sports to play is soccer. Currently we have a soccer goal set up in our backyard so he can practice scoring or play with his neighbor friends. He also enjoys wrestling during the winter, this past winter was his first year and he did really well. He placed at all the tournaments he wrestled in and made a ton of memories with friends from around our town.
Our Life Priorities
As a family we have chosen a set of values and morals that influence our decisions and life directions. Our family values include: Honoring God, giving back to those around us, loving people, using our gifts to pursue our passions, celebrating life, and always remaining faithful to our family.
We highly value family and relationships! We look forward to raising our children to live by the same set of values in order to grow up to be the best versions of themselves who can bring great change to our world.
It is our desire to raise our children with a global understanding that teaches them to care for one another. We will always work hard to provide them with opportunities to experience life to the fullest.
We don't tend to value things. It will not matter how fancy our cars our house is, or if we have the biggest TV. What will be remembered are the times we spent as a family, laughing together, and helping our world to become a better place.
When addressing cultural diversity in our lives, we work hard to make sure our children are being raised in an environment the embraces cultural diversity. We live in a college town that provides itself easy to many diverse populations and opportunities to learn about cultures that are different from our own. There are many children at the school, which Rachael works and the children attend, from many different racial and ethnic backgrounds. We have a circle of friends that represent many different nationalities and races. We believe that this will help make our children feel welcomed in their surroundings.
In addition we have been proactive to seek out places that embraces diversity, like we do. Working at one of the local elementary schools has provided a place to grow friendships of families that look like ours will look. We also recognize the importance of embracing and accepting all cultures. Our family is filled with unconditional love and we are supportive of discovering what makes each of us unique-not only culturally, but in interest and activities as well. Our family and community are accepting of cultural diversity and a child work be accepted as anyone else would. We are excited to adopt a child and learn to integrate both of our cultures into their lifestyle.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our home is a fun place to be! There seems to be something new and exciting happening all the time; a spontaneous wrestling match, art projects at the kitchen counter, a blanket fort in the basement, or a midday dance party in the bathroom.
We spend most of our time in our large upstairs living room where we enjoy watching movies or sports together.
We live 10 blocks away from the closest park, and are a very short drive to the elementary school that the kids attend, which also happens to be the same one where Rachael teaches second grade.
We have a young family directly behind our house with children close to the same age as Sophia and Griffin. They enjoy playing together by jumping on the trampoline, playing soccer or swinging. During summer or after school as soon as the kids get home they run outside to see if their friends can come over and play.
Our Extended Families
We both come from large close-knit, extended families. We spend not only holidays together, but many weekends together throughout the year.
It has become a tradition that we attend the annual beach vacation with Rachael and her extended family at the beginning of each summer. The week is filled with lots of fishing, beach time, and enjoying all the warm Florida sun can provide.
Joshua is one of four siblings and his parents are farmers which provides them opportunities to travel and allows them to visit more often. Joshua's parents and siblings spend most weekends with us during the fall. This is the time of year that we support our favorite college football team by hosting our family tailgate to cheer on "the Cats!"
Although, both extended families are busy, they always make time for family and we see them often even though we are not in the same city. We are both extremely close to our families and our children have many opportunities to be surrounded by the love and attention from our parents and extended families. Everyone is so excited and supportive of our adoption journey. We both have siblings who have had babies recently, so it is important to give our children the opportunity to grow up together. Both of our families are looking forward to sharing these same sort of special memories with our newest addition.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We can't even begin to imagine how difficult of a decision this must be for you; however we promise to give your child a safe, stable, nurturing and compassionate home.
Since the beginning of our marriage, we've know that we wanted a large family. After finding out about Joshua's genetic mutation, which can cause severe disabilities in children, we knew that our journey would lead us to adoption. At first this was very difficult for us to accept, but after several months we realized that there was another plan for us and our dream to have a large family. We are strongly committed to opening our hearts and home and sharing all of the love we have as a family with another child.
We imagine that the decision that you are making for your child is not one that you have taken lightly or without a lot of thought. We want you to know that the decision to become a family 5, and expand or family is not one that we have taken lightly either. We know that parenting is not always easy or glamorous but know it to be one of the most rewarding things we will ever have the opportunity to do in our lifetimes. We hope that learning more about us and our families will give you peace of mind as you consider adoption for your child. If you would like to meet us and learn more about us, that is something we would welcome during our journey together.
Please know that your child will be welcomed into a loving and supportive family. We met over 14 years ago and have been married for 11 years. We are each other's biggest supporters and look forward to sharing our love with your baby. We take advantage of every opportunity we have to spend time together, not only with ourselves, but with our children, families and friends. Our families are extremely supportive of us and our decision to adopt. They are beyond excited at the thought of adding another child into our family that is ever growing with babies recently on each side. We are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to grow our family and are excited to provide you baby with a loving home and big sister and brother. We believe that having siblings can give a child, someone to play with, learn from, and look up to.
We delight in the role that you will play, whatever you choose for that to be. You are significant to us and ALWAYS will be. We welcome you continued investment in your child's life. We are happy to send email updates, become friends on social media, to share pictures and stories, as well as write letter with keepsakes that mark milestone in your child's life. We are open to making arrangements for visits when the time is rights. We are eager to know you and happy to form a relationship and work together on this journey. We make this commitment to you that we will always speak highly of you and honor you with our words and actions. From our perspective, you have made a brave and courageous decision and we will always respect you for the choice that you made. Our gratitude for your selfless decision and the unending love you have for your child.
With all of our love and respect,
Joshua & Rachael
