Pete & Lindsey
We believe a family is a team; we support each other and work together. We are so excited to add a child to our team! We know it will be hard work and are ready to work. We can't wait to watch our family grow and we hope you choose us and look forward to add a child to our team.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Pete's parents owned a small cabin on land near the Pennsylvania state forest. It has since been taken over by us. It is our favorite place to be, peaceful and quiet; it is the perfect place for glamping, hiking, hunting and other outdoor activities.
Having spent his childhood summers there, Pete created friends and bonds with people we still see today. When we all gather there for long weekends it is full days of eating, laughing and good clean fun—kids and adults together.
On a normal day deer and other small animals are always out to be seen and very friendly. Some can even be hand fed!
We look forward to creating many new memories at the cabin with a family of our own.
We like to spend time at home enjoying our pets, our yard and our garden. In the spring and summer we grow vegetables and herbs at home. Having a garden is such a rewarding experiences and something we look forward to sharing with our child.
In the summer we like to go for bike rides along the river and we enjoying cooking on weekends and trying new recipes with friends.
We have two adorable dogs and a very affectionate cat. We are passionate about rescuing pets and volunteer with our local animal shelter. Both of our dogs were rescued as seniors and are incredibly sweet. Our cat is very popular in the neighborhood and likes to visit with neighbors.
One of the biggest benefits of Lindsey's job is flexibility. Lindsey works from home for a software company but plans to take time off work at first. Having a flexible schedule and no commute will allow her to spend more time with the family. Lindsey's boss is also in the process of adoption and her company offers adoption benefits. Pete plans to be a stay at home father eventually working part time as a woodworker.
We live in a very diverse suburban neighborhood close to a major city. Because of this we are fortunate to be able to participate in so many cultural events and meet people from so many different places. We feel it is important for a child to be exposed to different cultures and ways of thinking. We are a few minutes from dozens of museums, art galleries, theaters and restaurants from every place in the world, and we can't wait to share these experiences with a child. We also have friends of every race, religion and family type and want our child to grown up in an open minded, curious, loving and accepting environment.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in an incredibly diverse neighborhood outside of Washington, D.C. We have neighbors of every religion, culture and race and our neighborhood is very welcoming to all people.
One block from our house we have a beautiful park with a playground and bike and walking trails. We take our dogs for walks through the park every day. We participate in the park cleanup as well because we love our neighborhood. We are able to walk through the park to a weekly farmer's market in the summer. Our neighborhood school was recently rebuilt and holds activities for children in the neighborhood of all ages.
Our historical city has a number of public pools and water parks, bike riding trails, museums, libraries and playgrounds overlooking the beautiful River. We are very active in our community volunteering with our civic association, where Lindsey is on the Board, as well as mentoring at the local high school.
Our house has three bedrooms and a fenced-in yard. We have a large deck, area to grill and a garden area where we grow our own vegetables and herbs. We have a large eat in kitchen were most of our entertaining occurs. We love to have friends over and cook.
Our Extended Families
We both come from large Italian-American families and that originally lived in New York. Because of this our families are very similar and get along with each other very well. When we met we immediately realized that our families have the same values and traditions and that we were raised in a similar way.
When our families get together we eat and talk. Food is center to most family celebrations.
One of the favorite memories for both of us is making meatballs and sauce with our mothers. This is something we still do together on the weekends. We love making pounds of meatballs to share with friends and neighbors. The recipes is a family secret!
Both of our mothers live a couple hours away by train and visit with us often, usually staying for several weeks. They will both be retiring soon and will be coming to help us when we bring a baby home.
Both of our families are very excited about the adoption process and can not wait to welcome a new family member.
From Us to You
It is hard to put into words what having a family would mean to us, your gift could change the direction of our lives in ways we could only dream of.
When we met five years ago we knew immediately we would built a life together. We both had lead full lives, having already developed careers and traveled the world. Once we met we knew we had found our person in each other and there is not place we would rather be than with each other. We have had a wonderful marriage and have been each other's number one fan through the easy and hard times in life. Everything curve ball that life has thrown us has only made us stronger, we feel there is nothing we can't handle together.
There is nothing that we want more than to witness the growth and of a person and share in his or her life forever. We believe that parents are a child's first and most important teacher. We can't wait to teach a child about all the wonderful things this world has to offer. We both grew up with parents who, whether they knew it or not, taught us things that become lifelong hobbies for us. Both of our fathers taught us to love photography, and our mother's gave us a love for food, and eating!
We love that our child will know the joys if living near a city, but also have memories of visiting our cabin in the woods during the summers. We look forward to exposing our child to all the wonderful culture experiences of living in a diverse city full of people from all over the world. We also can't wait for summer at our cabin where he or she can run and play in the fresh air, swim in the lake and make lifelong friends.
We aren't perfect people. Sometimes there are dishes in the sink at night, sometimes laundry doesn't get folded until the next day, sometimes we run out of milk. We never run out of love and support for each other and we feel that is the most important thing in the world, even if that cheese has been at the back of the fridge for over two months.
We admire your courage and wish you encouragement as you consider adoption. We understand it takes a lot of courage to consider adoption, and we feel there is no greater gift that you could give to another person. We know this can't be an easy decision and we want you know that we plan to share photos and letters with you so you can see that you made the right decision.
We hope you can entrust your child's care to our strong circle of love.
