Alex & Sarah
Adoption quite literally means, "The Choosing." In the adoption journey, there are so many choices that have to be made. So from the bottom of our family's heart, thank you. Thank you for wanting to know us, and what brought us here in our journey to adopt ... again! Happy reading!
Adoption in Our Lives
We have one precious little girl that we are in the process of adopting. She is vivacious, and gentle. She is caring and also fierce. She tells us often how excited she is to welcome a sibling and all the ways she is going to care for this child.
Like your child, her story is special. Her story is unique and only hers, though her adoption story didn't start until she was 6-years-old.
We had a calling on our lives to adopt from the very beginning. We've always known it was the right thing for us as a family. In 2015, we began our journey. One year later in 2016, a sweet 3-year-old girl arrived at our front door. Though we were never sure if she would be able to stay with us forever, we loved on her and treated her as our own for two years. After much uncertainty God moved mountains to be able to bring us together. We will celebrate her official adoption this year! Sometimes things are just meant to be, and her in our lives is one of those things. We were made for each other!
Our Family Traditions
One of the greatest family traditions that Sarah's family does every year, is go on vacation together. Not just her immediate family, but all of her extended family as well! Though we try to do something new every year, we do admit that we have our favorite vacation spots that we have done more than once. We have gone to places like Alaska, Hawaii, Disney World in Florida, Germany, and Canada.
However, our all-time favorite place is Colorado! Every other year, everyone spread out all over the United States meets at Guest Ranch, where we spend a week Horseback riding, Whitewater Rafting, and exploring the Rocky Mountains.
Being able to spend quality time with family is the greatest part of this tradition. We often choose places that don't have cellphone service, so that we can focus on being together. It's a tradition to we don't plan on stopping anytime soon, and even plan to carry on to the next generation.
Our lifestyle is that of a simple one. We actively choose every day to create a simple lifestyle for ourselves. Each member of our family has their own likes and interests. We allow each other the time to go out a pursue those things, but we find it important to come together at the end of the day, have dinner, and discuss the fun things, but also leave room to discuss the difficult things.
We like to be out and about. Though we enjoy days of being at home, as a family we always find ourselves outside. Whether it be walking, riding scooters, going to the beach, hiking and snowboarding in mountains, going out to see movies.
Alex has many hobbies and interests. He has always been interested in music, even from the time he was a child. He has spent his life mastering the piano and guitar. He is a very gifted musician. He is also a professional magician. He has performed for celebrities and well-known artists, as well as performed for large companies and organizations. He has the drive to do everything to the best of his ability, and it shows when it comes to his passions.
Sarah's interest and hobby is all things art. She enjoys painting, drawing, and crafting. Her art has been exhibited at the Surrey Summer Art Festival in Surrey, England. She is a very gifted artist, and enjoys it very much.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in Southern California. We are home in a large suburb 45 minutes east of Hollywood. We love where we live! We can drive one hour in any direction and be in a different climate. We can drive a short distance and go paddleboarding at the beach, drive to the mountains to go snowboarding in the winter, or to the desert for camping. We enjoy being outdoors, and everything we could hope to do is just outside our door!
We live in a three-bedroom house where our living room is the headquarters of our home. It is where our sweet girl, family, and many friends have come to just hang out. Our home is not large, but it is filled with so much love and laughter. We would much rather be out traveling the world!
We also have two small dogs; Charlie and Piper! Charlie is Dachshund and Chihuahua mix, and Piper is a French Bulldog mix. They love to cuddle on the couch with us during family movie night.
Our Extended Families
We both grew up in large families, where someone was always around! We both loved this and hope to raise our families in the same way.
For Sarah, even though her extended family is spread out all over the United States, all of her immediate family lives within five miles of each other. We consider ourselves to be very close-knit. Her family has been touched by adoption. Her sister just adopted their son and they are thriving! In addition to this, Sarah has several cousins who have chosen to adopt!
For Alex, his story is the seed of our journey. At the age of two, he and his four other siblings were placed into a system to be adopted. By the grace of God, he found his forever family, and was adopted to a loving family with his biological sister. From the time he and Sarah starting talking about what our future family might look like, He was very adamant that one day he would want to do for a child, for what has been done for him. Thus, our journey to adoption was born!
From Us to You
We first want to thank you for taking the time to learn about us, about who we are, and what we are passionate about.
We can never truly know what you are experiencing right now, going through countless profiles and considering choosing a future family for your child. Our heart goes out to you in this moment. We pray that you will have a clear mind so that you are able to make the best decision for you and for your child.
Here is one thing we know for sure. Your child will be loved so deeply by us, and by our village.
If we could, we would like to share a quote with you that has completely resonated with us when it comes to children and adoption: "A child born to another woman calls me mommy. The magnitude of that tragedy and the depth of that privilege is not lost on me." -Jody Landers
This way of thinking has such deep roots in our hearts; we will never allow our children to forget their story, and for us as parents to never forget the brave choice you are making to allow us and trust us to care for your child in truth and love. As a family we are open to communication with the birth family. We are able to send letters and emails with photos.
Isn't it crazy how life happens in the blink of an eye? Life has brought us a lot of ups and a lot of downs, too. But, here we are standing on the other side of those hard times, stronger than ever. We have been blessed with much, but out of everything we have to be grateful for, we feel the most blessed by our village. Our friends, family, and loved ones have surrounded us in love and support to first adopt our first child, and then to adopt again! Our village is the reason we keep going, the reason we are able to do any of this. They are so excited to meet our next child, and take them as their own.
We promise to love your child unconditionally, without refrain. To give them the best life we are able to provide. To encourage them in their goals and dreams. To choose them every day, as we have chosen each other, and as we have chosen our daughter.
We have been blessed beyond measure, and are looking forward sharing this with another child.
Thank you for considering adoption, for sharing your joy with the world, and for your brave choice.
We are a family touched by adoption. It is woven into our story. We hope to create a safe place for your child, as it has been created for Alex and our daughter; for our nephew, and for our cousins touched by adoption. We don't have it all figured out, but we are committed to figuring it out together. To support each other while we're in process, because let's face it—we're all in process.
With love and so much gratefulness,
Alex & Sarah
