Erik & Emily
Adoption is one of the most important things we will do in life and we can't express how excited we are to begin our journey to parenthood. We are thankful that you have taken the time to review our profile and hope that you will consider us as potential parents for your child.
Our Leisure Time
Both of us enjoy trying new things and as a result you could say we are collectors of hobbies. Over the last few years, we have taken up bowling, tennis, golf and Erik has unsuccessfully tried to get Emily to enjoy basketball as much as he does. When we're not at home, you'll often find us out with the dogs on one of the many scenic hiking trails near our home or on the golf course with friends. Around the house, Emily especially loves to cook and bake and get creative in the kitchen and Erik equally loves taste testing the results. Since childhood, Erik has loved technology and enjoys building computers and being our families' resident tech support. When Erik's head is buried in a computer, Emily can usually be found in the garage using the many tools she has received over the years to build wood signs or fun games for family and friends. Our hobbies, while different, often allow us to work together and we love creating new things for our home or as gifts for others. We are both so excited to share new experiences with a child and the joy of doing activities together as a family.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Emily About Erik: Of the many reasons I love Erik, I think one that stands out the most is how thoughtful he is. He often lets me know he's thinking of me with a text, small gift or my favorite treat, for no other reason than to let me know he's thinking of me. On occasion he will see something silly to get me just because he thinks I will like it. He also happens to be one of the funniest people I know. I love his sense of humor and how he makes me laugh. There isn't a day that goes by where he doesn't catch me off guard with a funny comment or a look at just the right moment that makes me giggle. I can't wait for him to be a father and tell our child his nerdy dad jokes!
Erik About Emily: I love how caring and thoughtful Emily is, she puts everyone else first. She's always making special treats for me or our friends and family, just to put a smile on our faces. She is also so incredibly creative, I will come up with the most outlandish ideas for projects and things we can do around the house, and she is immediately thinking of ways to accomplish it - she never hesitates to learn or try something new. But above all, she's my best friend, there is no one else I'd rather spend my life with and begin our next adventure into parenthood. Our child will be so very lucky to call her Mom.
Type of Education We Will Provide
Our greatest hope for our child is to have a bright future with as many opportunities as possible. We believe this will be achieved through education and should begin with finding joy in learning from a young age. One of the ways we hope will encourage this, is to share our love of reading and we can't wait to read with our child every night.
Our approach to helping our child with their education will be very hands-on, such as having dedicated study time and being engaged in their school activities. Erik learned to work on computers with his father from a young age. He has always had a love of technology as a result, which has helped him throughout his career. We feel it will be important to help our child find practical applications for the things they enjoy learning in school.
We want to teach them the right habits early on that will help carry them through as they continue in their education. As our child grows, we will guide them in finding something they are passionate about and help to pursue what makes them happy.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a newer community with tons of fun activities for families. We enjoy attending many different events from monthly concerts or stargazing at the local park, to holiday events like the Halloween carnival. We especially love riding our bikes to the local diner and farm stand with our nephew on the weekends. One of the fun things about our community are all of the unique parks - every couple of blocks there is a new green space with different playgrounds, fire pits or splash pads.
We have lived in this neighborhood for the last 4 years after building a beautiful 4-bedroom home with a large kitchen and great room. The kitchen is definitely the focal point of our home where Emily loves trying new recipes and baking for all of our family gatherings.
We love how close everything is in our neighborhood, whether that's family just up the street or the local dog park for our two dogs, Panda and Bosley. If you listen carefully, you can even hear what's for lunch on the morning announcements at the brand new elementary school right outside our front door.
Our Extended Families
We are very lucky that both of our families live close by. Erik's sister lives only a couple blocks away and all of our immediate family is a short drive from our home. Having family nearby allows us to be an important part of one another's lives. We love being able to attend our nieces' and nephews' volleyball games and piano recitals, as well as enjoying frequent family dinners and celebrating holidays together.
One of the family events we enjoy most is hosting a Christmas celebration every year. We love organizing activities and games for the kids, exchanging gifts, eating good food and spending time with those we love the most. We even built an arcade that the kids love to play games on while at our house.
Our parents and siblings are so excited to have another member of the family to love and spoil. We have 12 nieces and nephews ranging in ages from 17 to just months old, and we are thrilled that a child joining our family will have tons of cousins to grow up with! We all can't wait to create new memories and share in the joy a child will bring to our lives.
From Us to You
We hope that through this profile and our letter you will have an opportunity to get to know a little bit more about us. We know that this can't be an easy process for you and want to truly thank you for taking the time to consider us.
Both of us are so excited to start a family and we want you to know that we already have so much love for the child that will come to our home! We can't wait for all of the little moments we will share with our child - reading bedtime stories or hearing them laugh when we make silly faces. We both come from large close-knit families that are so important to us. We've been overwhelmed by their love and support since sharing our plans to adopt. We know that any child we are lucky enough to welcome to our family will be so loved by their future grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
We've been married now for over 10 years and can't imagine what our lives would be like without each other. We have worked for the same company for over 13 years and met shortly after Erik was hired. There was a lot of flirting as we got to know one another and became friends. Erik was a little slow to ask Emily out, so she decided she was done waiting and passed him a post-it note asking him to see a movie that night. He assumed that she was asking him to join a group of friends and was surprised to find out it was actually a date. After that point we were pretty inseparable and would spend most of our time together, in and outside of work. We dated for about 9 months before Erik proposed, and being the thoughtful person that he is, came up with the perfect way to do it. Erik secretly asked Emily's sisters to help pick out the ring and cover the walls of her apartment with thousands of post-it notes asking "Will you marry me?" She was so surprised to find that this is what he had been doing the entire day after telling her he was too sick to go to work.
We both love to travel and enjoy exploring new places on our trips each year. When we aren't on vacation, we are very much homebodies and love curling up on the couch together to watch movies. We live in a great neighborhood with many young families and tons of fun events for the kids. We love having our nieces and nephews over to play at the community game room and splash pad. We also enjoy taking our dogs on walks to the many parks in our community. We can't wait for our child to experience these things for the first time and enjoy them together as a family.
We want you to know that we will be open and honest with our child about you and their adoption story, which begins with your comfort level. We want to be able to answer any questions they have and share your role in how they joined our family, and we also hope to be able to get to know you. We would love to be able to send you photos and updates through mail, email or text and would be open to visits as well. Regardless of the level of involvement you want to have, know that you will always be an important part of their life.
We can't possibly begin to understand the difficult decision before you and want you to know how grateful we are for the opportunity to become parents through adoption. We're not sure we can say anything more compelling than any other couple or say that we are any more deserving. Just know that we will love and care for your child with all our hearts and will dedicate our lives to their well-being and happiness. Thank you so much for considering us as potential parents for your child.
