Michael & Janna
We are honored that you would take the time to consider our profile. We believe that adoption is a gift and we cannot wait to embark on this journey with you if you choose us to be your child's parents. We have so much love to give and are excited to make sweet memories with this little one and you.
Our Family Traditions
We love Christmas! Janna loves to decorate the house and putting up the tree every year is very exciting for us. Most of our ornaments are from our childhood and every year we get a new ornament, so we have one for each year we have been married. We also like to pick up new ornaments when we travel. Last year we went to Tybee Island, GA and fell in love with the area, so we got an ornament to commemorate our trip. We can’t wait to pick out our first ornament as a family of three!
We always spend Christmas morning at home together to talk about the past year, dream about the coming year and come up with some goals for our family. That evening we head to Michael's grandparent's home to have dinner with his whole family. We see Janna's family on Christmas Eve or for lunch on Christmas day for the whole family to be together. It will be so much fun to add a child to our holiday traditions!
Birthdays are also a big deal in our home. Janna's mom started a tradition of having a birthday month instead of just a day. It is something that Janna has continued and it is awesome to celebrate each other and use it to spend more time with friends and family. We will always make sure this child’s birthdays are memorable.
Our Pets, Murdoch & Arlo
We have two fur babies, one dog and one cat, that we truly adore. They are both big love bugs and get along very well. We know they will be amazing with kids living in our home based on all the practice they get with the young kids that visit us regularly.
Murdoch is our Old English Bulldog mix and he is the most gentle and caring creature. He just adores anyone he comes into contact with. If you pet him, you're pretty much his favorite person ever. He loves our nieces and nephews that come to visit and is very gentle and loving with them. He follows them around like they are little gods and just wants to be near them.
Arlo is our long-haired cat. Janna found him when he was just 3 weeks old and he has been a wonderful addition to our family. He is very sweet and cuddly, when he wants to be. He loves being around us and watching the birds at the bird feeder. He loves to watch our nieces and nephews from his perch to see what they are up to and once he is comfortable, he likes to follow them around with the dog.
We fully realize and acknowledge that there are issues in the world that we can only ask or read about. We are learning as much as we can and know that it will always be something we will be constantly learning about and trying to make the world a better place for all children. We are committed to creating a diverse environment in and around our family, no matter the race of our future children.
Since we have moved to a new area, we are searching for a new and diverse church to become a part of. We chose a neighborhood and school system because they are both amazing and culturally diverse. We want to make sure there are always people of all races and cultures in our lives as we believe this is best for every child.
We know that we will likely never be perfect, but we know that diversity is something important to all families and will do our best to include all cultures into our life. We also hope that if you were to choose us and become a part of our family that you would be a part of that journey with us.
Our Extended Families
We are very close to our families. Our parents live in the same town we grew up in, about 5 miles apart. Our home town is about an hour and a half from our home so we try to see everyone at least once a month, but usually it’s more.
Michael grew up the oldest of two and his younger brother, Jonathan, lives in Virginia. His dad, Henry, is a general manager at the small country club at home and his mom, Marie, is a Certified Nursing Assistant at a hospital nearby. Michael’s family has always bonded through movies and sports. We see every superhero movie and discuss it afterwards, not just the plot but also the technical side of things like the special effects, acting and locations. Golf has been a huge part of the family bonding as well. Everyone is so excited to teach a child how to golf!
Janna grew up the oldest of three. Her brother, Bill, lives in Virginia and her sister, Mallory, travels the country with her job working in different locations each season. Janna’s dad and mom, have their own motorcycle accessories business and both work for other local companies. As a family, we love to vacation at the beach, play board games and just spend quality time all together. We just genuinely enjoy being together and are excited to add a little one to the mix.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a small town in North Carolina. We both grew up in a small town and knew we wanted that atmosphere for our family. We are blessed to be in an established neighborhood with access to a pool and a city park right across the street from our neighborhood. The park has an area for dogs, skating and two different playgrounds. We are also walking distance to the charming historic downtown and a 10-minute drive to shopping and any food you can imagine.
Our home is a ranch style with a fenced-in backyard with plenty of space for a swing set and any kind of sport a child would want to play. Our garden will be in raised beds around our shed to be protected from our dog, Murdoch, and also just to look pretty.
There are many young families in our neighborhood with plenty of playmates for this sweet babe. There are two girls across the street that may even baby sit for us one day! We are so excited to watch and share with you as this baby makes their first friends in our neighborhood.
From Us to You
We are Michael and Janna from North Carolina. We are so honored and thankful that you are taking the time to learn more about us. We want you to know that we think of you often, even though we don't know you yet, and that we cannot wait to learn more about you and bring you into our family if you choose us to parent your child.
We have known each other almost our entire lives. We became friends in middle school and even "dated" for a short time. We lost touch in high school and reconnected in college but were living in separate cities. We began dating long distance and learned to enjoy every moment we have together. We were married in May of 2015 and have really enjoyed being married. Adoption was always a part of our discussions even while we were still dating, we just didn't know when it would happen. We began trying to conceive after about four months of marriage; soon after we decided that now was the perfect time to pursue adoption.
We are so excited to become parents! We dream about the every day moments with our child - the bed time routine, eating meals together, playing outside, walking the dog together. We believe that those moments are what make a family and are the memories that we take with us into life. We are excited to watch the relationships between this child and our parents and siblings grow. We know they are going to have so much fun and be the center of attention with our families. We hope to share our love of sports by taking them to Duke football and softball games, playing games in the yard and maybe one day watching them play on their own teams.
We know that this was not the plan you envisioned when you thought of bringing a life into this world. This blessing comes from a really hard situation and that is not lost on us. You are not lost to us. We know you love your baby more than anything and that doesn't stop when you make the choice for someone else to parent. Your love for them will never be far from our minds or kept from your child. We hope that you don't question your own love for your baby and know that whatever decision you make is going to be the right one for you and them.
We always want to be open and honest with this baby about your role in our lives. We want them to love you, know you and be grateful for your presence. Our plan is to make a Birth Story book that would contain the story of how our families found each other, pictures of you, if you so choose, and pictures of all of us together. Hopefully this will be a great way to include their story in an everyday way and ensure that they are comfortable with their story and asking any questions they may have.
We promise you that you will receive as many letters and pictures as you desire and we would love to bring you into our extended family with as open of an adoption as you desire. We know that life ebbs and flows and that there may be times where we talk more or less and that's ok. We will never question your love for your child during those times and we will have a system in place so that we can still share photos and letters with you for when you are ready to have them. We know it will take work on both of our parts but we want you and your baby to be able to know each other and never question the love you will always share.
Thank you, again, for taking the time to learn more about our family. You are in our hearts and we cannot wait to meet you if you choose to move forward with us.
