Matt & Cindy
We want to thank you for reading our profile and considering us as adoptive parents for your child. We are excited to grow our family, and can't wait to share all the love and zest for life we have. It's a great honor to be considered as adoptive parents, and we hope you see us as the best fit for your child, whom would be deeply loved and supported in our home.
Our Son, Gunner
One of the best things to happen to us was the birth and adoption of our son, Gunner. We are full-blown in the toddler stage, and while some days are more challenging than we ever thought they could be, there are many more days filled with laughter and joy.
We love experiencing life with him, and really just knew from the beginning the best thing was to fold him into all our activities. That's why he's already traveled to several states, goes to games and out to eat with us, and we are working on sitting through movies.
Some of the challenges are that he's a little shy so takes a minute to warm up to new situations and he has to be tricked into eating his vegetables! But the great things are his love of learning, his smile and laughter and the fact that he's very sweet and loving with everyone, including our two dogs.
We have been talking with him about his new sibling, and "practicing" being around a baby with our niece whom is about six months old. He loves being around her and always wants to hold her and help out when she is crying.
Our Leisure Time
A big part of our life is family activities, which include our son and two dogs. We love going on walks around the neighborhood and playing in the nearby park. Since we added a small pool to our backyard, we spend almost all our time in the summer together outside swimming, grilling, and watching our son play.
We also spend a lot of time watching our favorite sports teams. Matt loves college basketball, Cindy college football. Baseball, soccer and professional football are also popular in our city, so there is always someone to watch and cheer on. Our son has attended every kind of professional sports event with us, so now it's definitely a family affair.
Cindy enjoys gardening and reading a good book. She is also active in her neighborhood business community and home owners association, providing mentorship and even spear-heading events like the local children's Easter egg hunt. It's important to her to share her love of community with a child, showing them the value of volunteering, and giving back to causes such as animal welfare and cancer research. Matt, in addition, loves movies of all kinds and learning all there is to know about old airplanes. He spends quite a lot of time in his local design community and loves taking our son out to places like the arcade, Legoland and the zoo.
One of the elements of adoption that we have thought the most about is how we can ensure a connection between our children and their cultural background. We know it's something we will have to work hard at and put special effort towards. However, that's one of the best things about the neighborhood we call home. Our neighborhood is very diverse, with many races coexisting. This affords us access to a lot of culturally relevant programs, role modes from diverse backgrounds, and the opportunity for this child to connect with their background, whatever that may be. Fostering that connection will be an important part of our parenting process.
Taking this even further, we have even started thinking about the educational decisions we make that will impact this child in the future. We have several great options close to us where our child would have the opportunity not just for a great education, but also the chance to be around those children who speak a different language or come from different backgrounds.
Our House and Neighborhood
We can't say enough wonderful things about our neighborhood. Not only do we love it so much we live here, but our businesses are also here- just three doors down from our home.
It's a very diverse and eclectic neighborhood in Missouri. There are families who have lived here for generations, right alongside young families who have moved here recently. There are festivals and neighborhood parades for many holidays, including a children's Easter Egg hunt that Cindy helps organize. We are also lucky to have a community center, a library, and several parks in the area. There are a lot of recreational opportunities for kids of all ages including recreational sports, reading groups, movie nights and art-related summer camps at our local gallery.
Our house is one of the newer ones in the neighborhood, and we are just the second family to live here. It has three floors, our favorite being the game room on the top floor. It is attached to a balcony and has one of the best views in the city. Last summer we also remodeled our backyard, as we wanted it to be more useable for the family. We added a small pool and all new landscaping which is a better fit for our lifestyle.
Our Extended Families
We are both lucky as we have close-knit families whom we get to spend time with on a frequent basis. Matt has three siblings- an older sister and two younger brothers. Cindy is the oldest of three, with two younger brothers. When we are together with our families, we are almost always in a large group, everyone joining in. The grandkids are the center of both families, so our get-togethers are usually lively and full of activities.
Matt's family lives just a few hours from us and loves getting together for the holidays. His mom is retired, and often times watches the grandkids when they are not in school. Cindy has one brother who lives near us, but the rest of her family lives in her hometown. Sports are often the center of their activities, whether it be watching their alma mater's football team or going to the grandkids' basketball games.
Both of our families live outside of their nearby cities, so when we go and visit, we often spend time outdoors, letting our dogs run around the farms, or having family cookouts. Everyone is so excited that we are adding to our family, and your child has so many people waiting to meet them. The cousins are especially thrilled, as they are all extremely close and can't wait to have another little one as part of the family!
From Us to You
To begin with, we want to thank you for the selflessness you are showing by considering adoption for your child as well as considering us to be the ones you entrust your child to.
We have been on our journey together for more than 13 years, and married for almost four. We first met when we worked at the same company where we became fast friends. During the first years we dated, we each chased our dreams of starting our own businesses. We worked hard, building each of the companies up to a very successful level. We knew that when we were ready to start our family, this would not only allow us to have the resources needed to raise a child, but also the freedom of flexible schedules.
Matt is an incredible creative talent. He owns a design agency, and specializes in branding companies from the ground up. Over the last few years, his work has gone up against some nationally known companies and has been awarded Best of Show as well as several Gold awards on a national level. Cindy is more analytical, and she helps clients develop marketing strategies across all types of mediums such as TV, magazines and online. One of her proudest moments is when her company was named one of the top 25 companies under 25 employees.
One of the most exciting things to us about growing our family is the sibling relationship our son and your child will be able to form. While parenting always has its bumps, raising Gunner has been a true joy, and we are so excited at the opportunity to bring your child into our fold. Gunner is a bright, caring, fun-loving little boy, and we have been talking to him a lot about what it means to have a brother or sister. We are especially happy that Gunner and your child will be able to support each other as they grow, especially as they face their own feelings about adoption.
We always knew adoption was the path we wanted to take. It's important to us that this child feels loved and supported. It excites us to think of all the adventures that lay ahead, and we can't wait to see our family grow and our children form lifelong bonds. We offer your child a supportive structure so they can grow into the fabulous person they were meant to be. As part of that, it's important to us that we get to share their milestones with you through letters, pictures, emails and phone calls, so you know your child is happy, healthy, and thriving in our home.
Our family are tremendous dog lovers and have two dogs, Nova and Fynn, whom we 100% percent consider part of our immediate family. Nova is a Siberian Husky and is five years old. She is people person, and we joke that she is a little princess who wants to be the center of attention. Fynn is three years old, and we rescued her from an animal shelter. She is high energy, but is a big snuggler whose favorite thing is to cuddle up with us in front of the TV. They are both great with Gunner, and he's getting to the age where he also loves snuggling with them. Gunner's main "chore" is helping feed them, and having them around is a great way to teach him about patience, love, and responsibility.
We are both from Kansas and almost all of our extended family lives within a short drive. We get to see them a lot, thankfully, whether they come visit us, or we go and visit them. Cindy's brother and his family moved to our current city a few years ago, so it's nice to have family even closer. They have three girls, and Gunner loves getting to go on sleepovers with his cousins. In addition to our family, we have a truly amazing group of close friends who have become our chosen family. They each shine in their own way, and we know they will also be great mentors to this child.
We cannot wait to welcome your child into our home, our hearts and our family.
