Ben & Stephanie

We both feel excited and humbled as our adoption journey begins. We expect that being parents will be the hardest and most rewarding experience we will ever have. We believe showing love and mutual respect for each other is a very important part of helping our child develop into a responsible, respectful and caring person. We want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to share more about our life with you.

Our Adventures

Spelunking in Mexico

We enjoy traveling the world and experiencing new cultures. We try to make time for a vacation at least once a year. Many of our trips are to Mexico with it being a short and easy flight from Colorado. While traveling, we like to be active and go on adventures to include kayaking, spelunking, ziplining and exploring ancient ruins. We are lucky to have been able to climb to the top of Coba, an ancient Mayan temple in Mexico, before it closes to the public. We have both lived overseas, which allowed us to travel easily throughout Europe and other continents. The most intense adventure we have been on was a walking tour in an underground cave where recent rains had flooded the exit. In order to get out of the cave we had to float backwards through a narrow canal that had only six inches of air between the water and the cave ceiling. A few of our favorite places that we have visited so far are the Roman Colosseum and the Swiss Alps.

Fun Facts About Us

Stephanie Reading With Our Friend's Twins

About Stephanie:

  • Lived in England for two years.
  • Has seen more of Europe than she has the United States.
  • Saved many of her favorite books and toys from her childhood so she can pass them on to her children one day.
  • Put herself through college and bought her first house at the age of twenty four.
  • Spontaneously sings to the dogs without realizing she is doing it.
  • Airplane!

    About Ben:

  • Served in the military for six years.
  • Has lived in four different foreign countries.
  • Bought his first house when he was twenty three and then his dream home when he was twenty nine.
  • Can fix just about anything.
  • Loves building forts, he might even enjoy it more than our nephew.
  • Adoption in Our Family

We both have personal experience with adoption as we each have a family member who was adopted. One of Stephanie's cousins was adopted from an orphanage in China at the age of two. Stephanie and her extended family were all a big part of the adoption process and have cherished having her cousin as a part of the family. Everyone has enjoyed watching Stephanie's cousin grow into a fun-loving and precocious teenager. We have had many laughs at family game nights where Stephanie's cousin blatantly cheats her way to a shameless victory. Ben's step-sister was also adopted from China at a very young age. His family has loved seeing his step sister grow into a very caring and thoughtful young lady. Both girls are loved unconditionally by everyone in the family.

    Our House and Neighborhood

    Our Home

We live with our two dogs, Tron and Annabelle, on our own 10-acre property. Our house is about 20 minutes outside of the city in a small close-knit community. We live next to a national forest on the lower slope of a mountain which gives us privacy, amazing views and keeps us close to nature. Living in Colorado gives us a chance to enjoy many different activities in the various seasons like hiking, biking and sledding. We love spending time outdoors playing with our dogs and in the summer we like to take them swimming at one of the local parks.

The Top of Our Favorite Bike Trail

Our neighborhood is very safe and friendly with a wonderful elementary school less than two miles away from our house. Our local moms group and school PTA put together many fun activities and events for the children year round that receive lots of community support. Every year the elementary PTA puts on a fall festival with a trick or treat street, bouncy houses, cake walks and tons of exciting games. We also have a wonderful park, with playgrounds and a baseball field in the middle of town. The town hosts most of our community events at the park which include music festivals and holiday celebrations. We are looking forward to being able to take our own child to many of the these events.

    Our Extended Families

Stephanie's 30th Birthday Celebration With Family

Ben has one younger brother and Stephanie has one older brother. Stephanie's brother lives less than an hour away with his wife and two year old son. We get together with our nephew and his family at least once a month for a family gathering where we either get together at one of our homes or go out and do a fun activity. We have our nephew over for frequent sleepovers and try to see him as much as possible. We are excited that our child will get to grow up having a close relationship with their cousin.

    Renaissance Festival With Family

Ben's aunt and uncle also live less than an hour away. We try to get together with them often for game nights and family outings. They have two adult girls that are very eager to meet their new cousin.

The rest of our extended families live out of state. We try to make time every year for a trip to go visit, alternating between our families each year. Both of our families are ecstatic to have another child to shower with love.

    From Us to You

We are so grateful that you want to learn more about us. We know this must be a challenging time for you. We are eager to share more about ourselves with you to help you choose the perfect parents for your child.

We started dating in 2013 and had always talked about having children once we were married. After we got married in 2017 and were ready to start a family, we came to learn that it may be impossible for us to have a biological child. We struggled with fertility treatments for a while before finally accepting our situation. We quickly decided that we still very much wanted a family and searched for other options. As we learned more about adoption, we felt it would be a great fit for us and a wonderful way to start our family.

Stephanie runs her own interior design company that allows her to work from home. We created Stephanie's business to allow her to work a very flexible part-time schedule to allow her to focus on being a stay-at-home mom in the future. Ben also runs his own business working as a systems engineer. He usually works only four days a week and is able to set his own hours. We like the flexibility of being able to change his schedule to allow him to be a part of all the important family events.

We believe that being a parent will be the most important job we will ever have. We are both goal oriented and know that working hard and focusing on our goals helps us achieve them. We believe that instilling strong values and teaching respect for others helps create good character. Our goal is to teach our child how to become a thoughtful, intelligent, independent and loving person. We are also very excited to learn from them and develop into better parents and spouses.

We take the responsibility of being parents very seriously and our promise to you is that we will love this child unconditionally and give them the best life we possibly can. We will be open and honest about their adoption. We promise that you will not be forgotten. Who you are matters to us because we believe that family history and knowing where you come from is important. We will always speak kindly of you and make sure that the child knows that your decision was made out of love for them. Your child will always be a part of you, and we will gladly pass along the history and information that you wish to share with us. We commit to remaining open to communication through letters and emails, if you desire. Our updates will show you that your child is happy, well taken care of and that you made the best possible choice for them.

We can't imagine how difficult your decision must be. You are giving a gift that is one of the most selfless and courageous that anyone can possibly receive. We want to truly thank you for considering us to be the parents who will love and guide your child to be the amazing person they are meant to be.

    Sincerely,

    Ben & Stephanie
