Matt & Aubrey
Throughout our marriage and our careers we have been lucky enough to see the world and meet many incredible people who have impacted our life. We are in the perfect position and very excited to begin our next journey in starting a family. We look forward to raising a child in a loving home into a strong, independent, caring individual who can achieve anything they set their minds to.
What Makes Us Unique
Ever since we were children, we had similar interests in how airplanes fly and what they can do. We both frequented airshows and gained all the knowledge we could as children, knowing that we were meant to fly and our place was in the sky. That interest led us both to choose the same career path by different routes. Matt went to study Aerospace Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on a Naval ROTC scholarship and Aubrey went to the United States Naval Academy. Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance we both ended up flying the F/A-18F Super Hornet, which we credit with bringing us together. Today we teach new jet students the systems, safety and weapons systems of the Super Hornet. Seeing our students develop into capable and confident aviators has been the highlight of our careers. Additionally, Aubrey has made it her mission to be an active member of Women in Aviation International where she participates in multiple outreach opportunities. She hopes to show young girls across the country that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
Our Leisure Time
Our passion on weekends is seeing what our city and surrounding areas have to offer. Whether it's a festival, play, concert, or going to an amusement park, we are there. The East Coast has an abundance of history, museums, and sights that we enjoy frequenting and learning about. We are avid travelers and getting to know our neck of the woods is a part of that.
On longer weekends, we enjoy hiking, camping, or going to a lake or beach to just relax and be together.
At home, we enjoying cooking new meals together and reading everything from Harry Potter to historical biographies and memoirs. Aubrey enjoys scrap booking so we have wonderful books to look back at our life on and all the things we have been able to do as a family.
Additionally, walks, the dog park, or the beach with our dog, Hank, are always a favorite!
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Matt About Aubrey: Aubrey is genuinely kind to everyone she meets and makes friends everywhere we go. She goes out of her way to do outreach and empower young women throughout the country and is a mentor to many in our workplace. She is a wonderful cook (though it took many failed attempts while we were dating) and she loves entertaining our friends and loved ones. It amazes me how she excels at her career while maintaining the highest standards for our home and family as well.
Aubrey About Matt: Matt is one of the smartest and funniest people I have ever met, and he has the Dad jokes already down to a T. He makes me laugh all the time and is always willing to try new things with me, whether it be a new workout or random festivals and events. Among other things, he holds loyalty, trust and honesty in high regard and it shows within our marriage and the workplace.
Our House and Neighborhood
We moved across the country late last year to a highly desired and family friendly area just a mile from the beach. Coming from a small town the last six years we have been enjoying the events a larger city has to offer. There are festivals, plays, concerts and events almost every weekend and we enjoy taking in the local restaurants and sights. There is a large city park and a huge start park that have private beaches, hiking trails and playgrounds located within minutes of our home. We also live in an area that boasts wonderful schools and easy access to all areas of this beautiful new city.
Our new home is located in a wonderful, smaller neighborhood that has a suburban yet beach vibe to it. Among the younger families that live on our street are retirees enjoying the Virginia weather along the beach. Our favorite part of the home is the large backyard perfect for our dog and a child to spend the days with beautiful weather playing in. Aubrey is also very proud of the kitchen that we remodeled and put our own style to as she loves to cook family dinner every evening.
Our Extended Families
Matt is an only child and Aubrey has a younger brother who just married a wonderful woman. Matt's parents retired to a quaint mountain town in Colorado five years ago and enjoy spending their retirement visiting us and traveling the world. We love to join them when our work schedule allows and experiencing different cultures as a family. Aubrey's parents and her large, tight-knit family, all live in Houston, Texas. Her mother retired two years ago and her father builds hospitals around the country. Though the military has taken us to Florida, California and now Virginia, we travel to our families and vice-versa many times a year. This would be the first grandchild in the immediate family on both sides and be loved and spoiled beyond words. Education, solid moral values, family get togethers, and football are the foundations on which both of us were raised and we look forward to instilling those values and family ties with a child.
What we consider our family goes well beyond blood. One of the best qualities of the military is the amazing people you meet and get to know. Our extended family consists of hundreds of Naval Aviators and their families forming a strong bond and support system. We've had the pleasure of seeing their children grow as they would for us. A child in our family would have aunts and uncles all over the world that share our values and imbue the best qualities of honor, courage and commitment.
From Us to You
We would sincerely like to thank you for your consideration in choosing a family to raise your child. We know this is most likely the hardest decision you've ever made and we have the utmost respect for your choices on what is best for you and your child, whatever those may be. There are many wonderful families with open hearts and we are proud to be among so many awesome families.
We have spent the last 6 years of our marriage working incredibly hard, traveling the world, and enjoying all the time we could together. Throughout all of those years, we have talked about the excitement and love a child would add to our home and experiences. We envision T-ball games, camping trips, Christmas mornings and even sitting at the kitchen table working on homework together. Being parents is something we knew was always a part of our story. Kindness, education, honesty, and courage are all held to the highest standards in our home and we look forward to instilling a child with high moral values as well. Our dream is that we raise a child who is caring, independent, hardworking, and knows they have our full support for whatever they would like to achieve in life. We are huge believers that a child can accomplish anything with the right amount of support, dedication, and drive. Our parents offered us the same opportunities in life and helped us to individually achieve our goals, both professionally and personally.
Both of our families share these values and we have the pleasure of being close to them, even if we are not physically in the same location. A new child in the family would have a lot of Aunts, Uncles, cousins and a large extended family to share holidays with and celebrate their triumphs. They would also have a large amount of close family friends that make up our very tight-knit group of Naval Aviators and their families all over the world. Throughout our careers, both as Naval Aviators in the F/A-18 Super Hornet community, we have gotten to know great people who have changed our lives and taught us the meaning of what family truly is. It goes so much further than blood and includes those people that stand by your side through the good times and the bad. We cherish the friendships we have made and have the pleasure of watching their families grow as they would for us.
Throughout this adoption journey and for the rest of your child's life, we want you to feel positive you chose a loving home for your child that is full of opportunities and joy. We would be honored to send you letters and photos of birthdays, milestones and achievements throughout their life. Your child would know, as soon as they are able to understand, that they have biological parents that wanted nothing but the best for them. They would know that the decisions you made is to give them the gift of the best life they could have. Our promise to you is that your child will always be our highest priority, our pride, and the unwavering love of our lives.
