What It Means to Become Parents

With Our Niece

We both knew we wanted to be parents from the beginning of our relationship. Parenting seems like an amazing adventure where we will have the opportunity to teach, coach, laugh, love, and grow. Our friends with children all say being a parent is an amazing experience. We are very much looking forward to sharing our adventures with a child, to help them experience the world and other cultures. Most of our family and friends also have young children or are currently pregnant so there will be many cousins to play with! Those small moments of laughter, amazement at seeing something new, and the many successes are what we expect to cherish most. Of course, we do not expect life to be easy and fun all the time and are open to embracing the challenges that come with parenthood. Both of us are fortunate to have been raised by parents who created happy households despite the many hurdles that arise throughout life and we aim to continue that tradition.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Venice, Italy

Phil About Diana: Diana is amazingly selfless. No matter how difficult her day may have been she is eager to hear about my day and knows how to cheer me up if I am exhausted or not feeling well. She consistently encourages and challenges me to better myself. Her selflessness, patience, and genuine compassion are evident in everything she does, and her sense of adventure and humor tend to keep the mood light and exciting. She is most passionate about her friends and family which are the core of her foundation. I am excited to see these qualities translate through parenting.

Diana About Phil: I love, admire, and respect Phil in so many ways. His personality and humor have a way of bringing a group of people together and making them feel completely at ease. I admire how his personality cultivated a great group of friends who have since become my friends. Phil has a passion for travel and adventure which he usually shares with friends and family. It is inspiring how Phil can so easily lead a group of people both personally and professionally. Watching how he calmly and confidently tackles difficult or sensitive situations will make him a great father.

Our Cultural Heritage

One of our great passions is exploring other cultures. We are fortunate to live in one of the most culturally diverse areas in the country. We live in a cultural melting pot that affords opportunities at every turn to learn more about the people around us. Festivals, fairs, museums, and other events are regularly held in our immediate area. Events such as the Celtic and highland games festivals, the paella festival accompanied by flamenco dancers and music, the world cultural food festival, German Oktoberfest, and the Kris Kringle Market are just a few of the events we frequent. Diana grew up in a large polish community and still celebrates old customs with her family. Adoption means we get to further enjoy exploring culture as the child explores their heritage. To us, culture is a necessity to truly enjoy what life has to offer. The foods, celebrations, and customs all lend to raising a curious child in this globally connected world. We feel culture is an ultimate celebration of life and very much look forward to sharing that outlook with a child.

Our House and Neighborhood

We live in a large townhouse located in front of a playground and not far from the community pool. Our house has a few extra bedrooms to accommodate a growing family and visiting family alike and is within walking distance to several shopping centers and two miles from a historic district. Our development is an HOA community which means the common area and playgrounds are well-kept and neighbors keep everyone informed through community message boards. Neighborhood kids will often stop by while playing to say hi to our dog, Guinness. The school bus stop is just a few yards from our front door and the elementary, middle, and high school are all within a few miles. We are fortunate to live in an amazingly well-acclaimed school district.

At the Farmers Market Near Our Home

We know quite a few people and consistently host groups of friends. They enjoy coming over for food and games and tend to bring their children who like to play at the playground. Our house is uniquely located near a historical district that saddles a major city and agricultural country. The benefits of culture and farm-fresh food are at our fingertips and we tend to go out often to enjoy the areas around us.

Our Extended Families

With Diana's Family

Diana has a large extended family that lives in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and Virginia. Phil has family in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina. We often visit with our families to celebrate life events or just for fun and vacation. Phil's dad, stepmom and two brothers live in the next town over so we see them frequently and Diana's parents love to visit regularly. We all come together as one large family every Thanksgiving and we have been hosting for the past five years at our home. Thanksgiving is a crowd favorite because everyone loves Diana's turkey and stuffing recipes.

With Phil's Family

We love to gather over food and host barbecues in the summer for family and friends. We are often in the kitchen trying out new recipes or cooking on the grill or smoker when it is nice out. Everyone loves when Phil smokes ribs and he often gets requests to make them for birthdays. After eating we all typically converse or play board games. Most weekends are spent exploring, visiting family, spending time with friends, or having dinner with our parents. We take an annual trip to the beach to visit with Phil's family and several times a year we visit Diana's brother, sister-in-law, and nieces in New Jersey.

From Us to You

We would like to begin by saying hello and thank you so very much for taking your time to learn more about us. In time we hope to learn more about you!

In total we have been together for nine years and married for seven. We were drawn together by mutual senses of adventure, humor, ideals surrounding friendship and family, and many shared interests. We knew we were the right match for each other early on and began discussing large topics like career goals, biggest fears, and what an ideal family would look like. Diana knew she would be unable to conceive naturally so our relationship has been excitedly built with adoption in mind.

Adoption has always been part of our lives and there was never a question of how we wanted to start a family. We have both grown up with adopted family members and have seen closed and open relationships. The concept of an open adoption appeals to us for many reasons. The child will have another person, or people who love them, they will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore their heritage openly, and all members of the adoption triad will have peace of mind knowing the child's wellbeing is everyone's focus. We are excited to share the child's growth, development, accomplishments, and life with you. All levels of communication can be discussed and planned out from letters with pictures, phone calls, and in-person visits. While we believe that connection is important for everyone, we also understand if that level of openness is not ideal for you and will respect your wishes. We hope you will consider being a continued part of the child's life in any and every way.

Both of us are excited to be parents. After nearly a decade together we are looking forward to starting the next chapter of our lives. Sharing our knowledge, time, culture, and love with a child will enhance every moment of their lives. We are fortunate to offer an amazing environment for a child to grow and prosper. We live in an area that provides culture from a major metropolitan area and the treasures of agricultural farmland. Our school system is one of the best ranked in the country and our local economy has remained strong through trying times. Traveling, hiking, and general exploration are a part of our lives and will be passed along to your child. Both of us picture a child playing with our dog, going hiking, learning to cook, playing musical instruments, and having fun with friends. We are surrounded by family who love us and are eager to help, friends and family with children to play with, and limitless potential offered all around us. Family reunions and holiday parties typically see all the cousins get together for food and fun and the next generation is starting to follow in those footsteps. Having cousins and friends around will help the child build strong bonds. Those bonds paired with the bond offered by the adoption triad will help your child grow into an amazing individual and we cannot wait to be a part of that journey!

Words truly cannot express how thankful we are to you for taking your time to consider us as a part of your journey.
