Frank & Sheila
We are so excited to add to our family through adoption! Thank you for taking the time to look at our profile and for considering our family. We are so fortunate to have a life that we love, and we can't wait to share it with a little one. We know this is an emotional and challenging process, and we appreciate you considering us. We are looking forward to being the best parents we can be!
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
We both have a love for the National Parks. I think it began when we went to the Grand Canyon a few years ago. It was such an amazing site, and reminded us how vast and diverse our country is, and we decided that we wanted to try to get to as many parks as we can! So far we've made it to Grand Teton, Yosemite, Zion, and Bryce Canyon. Each park is so different and has a unique landscape. We love active vacations. Hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, canoeing, and biking are all things we enjoy. In addition, Sheila loves photography, and these are all things we can enjoy doing at the parks! In fact, one of our favorite things to do is go on a nature hike guided by one of the park rangers. We always come away with a new appreciation of nature, and learn something we didn't know before. We also love that it's something that we will eventually be able to share with our child. We look forward to exploring more parks with a little one, and showing them more of our amazing country!
Our Life Priorities
We both have similar views on life. We work hard and take our careers very seriously. However, we both have the attitude of, "We work to live our lives, we don't live to work." As a result, we consistently make time for each other, our friends, and our families (including our pets). This can be challenging at times, but we both feel the rewards of having close friends and family.
Additionally, we have shared interests we can enjoy together, such as traveling and dining out at restaurants, as well as our own individual interests. We feel that a full, well-rounded life is the key to happiness - and we do our best to achieve that balance. This is something we learned from our parents, as they had similar values. We would raise our child with these same values, teaching him or her the importance of personal connections and relationships, as well as the importance of learning to be independent, and developing interests of their own. These are the values we would instill in our child that would hopefully help them to live a rich and rewarding life.
Adoption in Our Family
We both know people who either are adopted, or have adopted children.
Sheila's cousin adopted a little girl from Romania when she was five years old. Her cousin Elaine had been teaching English in Romania, and had been to see the orphanages. She connected with a little girl named Bianca. After she returned home to the U.S., she still thought of that little girl in that orphanage. She ended up starting the long process of an international adoption, and when Bianca was five, she came to live in the U.S. with Elaine. She and Elaine have a wonderful relationship, and have been back to Romania several times together.
We also have friends who recently adopted domestically. They adopted a little girl a few years ago, and added to their family by adopting another little girl last year. It has been amazing to watch their family grow through adoption, and to see how much fun they are having being parents.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a great neighborhood in Maryland. We love our house and the area we live in. Our neighborhood has a ton of amenities we can walk to - shops, restaurants, and multiple parks! In fact, there is a community pool just two blocks away, along with a skate park and playground that kids of all ages enjoy. In addition, there are several other parks within walking distance from our home. There are lots of families with young kids, and there is an elementary school just a few blocks away, as well as some great private schools nearby. We are also very close to three universities. Our neighborhood is known for having lots of family-friendly festivals, including a Christmas parade that we go to every year with our friends and their children.
We live in a three-bedroom single-family home with a finished basement. Which means that we have lots of room for friends and family who come to visit! We also have a fenced-in yard where we've created a great garden that we spend a lot of time in. We love to entertain, and our home has become the meeting place for all of our friends, partly because we are in such a desirable location and close to so many amenities!
Our Extended Families
Our families are very important to us. Sheila grew up in Minnesota, and much of her family is there. We go out to Minnesota several times a year to visit. Sheila's dad passed away a couple of years ago, but luckily her mom has lots of family around. Frank's parents live nearby in Maryland, and we get to see them often. Frank has a bother, and Sheila has a sister, both of whom we are very close to. We know they will be very involved in our child's life, and they could not be more excited to be an aunt and uncle. The support from our family and friends has been overwhelming.
Because we have family all over the country, holidays are very important! We usually host Easter and Thanksgiving at our house, and have a big crowd with not just family, but friends too. We always go to Minnesota for Christmas, and enjoy the cold, snowy weather! We like to get out and about, and will go snowshoeing, ice skating, sledding, or hiking if we can. We always start a puzzle, and it usually takes us several days to finish it. It gives us a chance to see Sheila's large extended family as well. We also love to watch the movie Elf and make Christmas cookies! We look forward to carrying on these traditions and making new ones as well! Holidays will always be special for us.
From Us to You
Hi- We're Frank and Sheila. Thanks so much for taking the time to get to know us better. We've known each other for over fifteen years, and have been married for almost a year. We dated when we were younger, but the timing wasn't right. We remained friends through the years, and reconnected several years ago. The rest is history!
We live in a great neighborhood in Maryland that is close to everything. Frank grew up in Maryland, and Sheila came here to go to college. Sheila's family is still in Minnesota, so we make frequent trips there throughout the year. In addition, we have visitors from both sides of the family during holidays. We love our neighborhood, and chose to live here because we can walk to everything.
We knew that we wanted to be parents, but it wasn't until we got back together a few years ago that we could both really see what it would mean to be a family. It had always been sort of an abstract idea. We are unable to have biological children of our own, so adoption was an easy choice for us. We know several people who were either adopted themselves, or have adopted children of their own. Our lifestyle is already so family-focused, all we're missing is a little one to share it with!
We can't begin to imagine how difficult this process must be for you. But we want you to know that if you choose us as your family, we can promise you that your child will be loved and adored the way every child deserves to be. We have such a great life to share, and there is so much love in our home. We know that parenting isn't easy, and that there will be challenges ahead for us. But we approach things as a team, and we get through things by partnering with each other, and respecting each other, and supporting each other. Parenting for us will be no different. Both of us grew up having wonderful parents who set a great example for us. We both had lots of fun and laughter in our homes growing up, and we can't wait to provide the same loving, fun environment for a child.
We would love to be able to have a relationship with you, if that is what you want, and if that is what is best for the child. We believe strongly in the benefits of open adoption, and would hope that you would like to be a part of the child's life. That might just mean that we send you letters and pictures on a regular basis, but could also mean that we could be in more regular contact, and potentially have future visits with you as well. We know this isn't an easy journey for you, and we hope that you will take comfort in knowing that given the chance, we will give your child the best life we can. From the basics of family and love, to education, and sharing our values and teaching them right from wrong, your child will have a wonderful childhood, and will grow up in a family that will love them unconditionally.
