Ryan & Niki
We are extremely excited, focused and prepared for this next chapter of our lives. We are blessed with a wonderful family; still we know there is a precious piece missing. Our young children cannot wait to embrace a new addition with loving arms. As parents, we dream of the chance to shower this child with love and affection. We are committed to this journey. Thank you for the time and consideration in reviewing our profile.
Why We Chose Adoption
We are blessed to have two children, Nick and Bennett. Nick is full of energy and enjoys playing soccer, swimming, being on the lake and playing with Hot Wheels cars at home. Bennett enjoys dance, soccer, swimming, being on the lake and playing with her baby dolls at home.
Ryan began feeling led to adoption when he was a teenager, he knew at a young age he hoped to have adoption as part of his family some day. Early on in our relationship, Ryan began discussing this with Niki, as well. She was 100% aligned with him from the beginning to have adoption as part of a way to grow our family one day. When we experienced two miscarriages about two years ago, it only confirmed to us God's plan for our family. We feel incredibly blessed to have this opportunity!
Nick and Bennett are both very aware of the future of our family and are beyond excited to gain another brother or sister. Nick takes his role as big brother very seriously and understands that he is able to lead by example to his younger siblings and help then learn how to accomplish things. Bennett is beyond excited to be a big sister and welcome a baby into our family!
Our Leisure Time
In our leisure time we enjoy spending time together as a family. We attend church on most Sundays, and weekends are typically spent at the soccer fields (both our kids play soccer), on the lake or at our home swimming, playing games with the kids or entertaining friends and/or family. We always try and set time aside for date nights as well, we feel it's important to have that time together.
We enjoy traveling as a family and have been fortunate to be able to take family trips every year. Over the past few years we have traveled to Florida; California; Green Bay, Wisconsin; upstate New York; North Carolina; Gatlinburg, Tennessee; West Virginia; New Orleans; Texas and the Cayman Islands.
We contribute to various charities every year including local missions for the homeless, St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Jimmy V Foundation, and our church. We also host an annual pig roast for friends, family and neighbors at our home to help raise money for The Wounded Warrior Project.
We both enjoy exercising, Niki has completed eight half-marathons and multiple 5K races while Ryan has completed several half marathons, 5K races and triathlons. Our son, Nick, completed his first 5K at age five. We are so excited to add another child to our fun, loving and active family.
Addressing Cultural Diversity
We, along with our kids, are very excited about adding another child to our family and plan to honor and celebrate this child's heritage. Both Nick and Bennett have very close friends of different races (African American, Asian and Latino) at school and through soccer, dance, etc. Their school and our church has many families of different race and culture, as well as several families created through adoption.
Some other ways we are looking forward to addressing cultural diversity are through artwork within our home, displaying art of our child's culture, as well as books to teach them about their heritage. We plan to talk about cultural identity, learn and educate ourselves about different races and attend cultural events and celebrations in our community to allow our children to interact and meet other children and adults of all kinds of racial and cultural backgrounds.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our home is a spacious older home that has been renovated. We have four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen with eat-in kitchen, laundry room, playroom, basement that consist of a movie/exercise room and storage. Our home sits on 1.5 acres which includes a fenced backyard, a pool with a locked safety fence, pool house, fire pit, swing/play set and a garden.
Our neighborhood also hosts several family friendly events throughout the year, including an annual Halloween party and trick or treating for families, a small 4th July event for kids and family movie nights in neighbors' backyards. There are several kids in our neighborhood of various ages.
There are several parks and playgrounds very near our home that we frequent often with the kids. We are also close to local libraries, movie theaters, zoo, museums and restaurants. And we are only 30 minutes from the lake we have our boat docked at.
The school our kids attend is attached to our church. This has provided an incredible community we are so happy to be a part of. The school holds an annual carnival to raise money; annual vacation bible school is held at the church along with various other events and fundraisers that allow us to interact with families of our children's friends.
Our Extended Families
We are fortunate to have Niki's family close by and although Ryan's family is spread out, we are able to see each other several times throughout the year. We recently took a trip with some of Ryan's family to LEGOLAND and Disney World. Over the past couple of years we have taken trips to Lambeau Field via RV, Niagara Falls, North Carolina, Florida and California as a family.
Over the holidays we like to be at home as much as possible, however, we also enjoy visiting family. Often on Thanksgiving or a Fall Break we will visit Niki's parents in California and typically sometime after Christmas and between New Year's Eve we will visit Ryan's family in Ft. Lauderdale.
Part of what makes our family unique is how many cousins we have within short traveling distance. It is always such a great time for our children when they are with their cousins and grandparents. There are so many various ages of cousins that everyone has someone their age, or close to their age, to play with. We just added grandchild number 12 on Ryan's side of the family!
Both of our families are supportive of our plan to adopt and cannot wait to add another child to the family!
From Us to You
First and foremost, thank you for the time and consideration in reviewing our profile. We are extremely excited about this amazing new chapter of our life. Hopefully these next paragraphs provide a little more color regarding our family and lives.
We met while living in a downtown high-rise. The initial introduction took place at a social event hosted by the condo association. Once we met the rest was history. We dated for about seven months and then we were engaged ... seven months after that we were married. As you can see, things progressed pretty quickly! Looking back, those 14 months of courtship were pretty amazing. We had so much fun exploring our urban downtown environment, which was so perfectly tailored to our age and lifestyle.
Once we were married, we decided to buy a house, get a dog and start working on a family! We moved into a more rural environment, in contrast to the urban environment we were previously living in. Nevertheless, we still remain only 15 minutes from the city. Maintaining easy accessibility to explore the city was something we were not willing to sacrifice.
Less than two years after we were married, our son Nicholas entered the world. He has been an absolute blessing and is a fantastic little man. Nick is a handsome, smart and athletic little guy. He truly views the world with a lot of questions and wonder. In a similar sequence of events, less than two years after that, our daughter Bennett came on to the scene. She is a gorgeous little girl with a truly incredible heart. Bennett is a very social and kind person. She is naturally selfless and was born to be a big sister!
We are focused on raising a Christian family. Only second to our faith in God is our faith in our marriage. We have an incredibly strong relationship and are best friends. We are quickly coming up to our 8th anniversary. We are completely in sync as parents and remain completely in love as a couple. We have been very fortunate to have found each other and have been equally fortunate to have been blessed with two awesome little people.
This leads us to our next chapter in life ... the expansion of our family through adoption. As a family, we are completely committed to this process. Expanding the family through adoption has always been a plan of ours. We believe the only people that might be more excited about this adoption is our children - They are ecstatic and actually pray about the adoption during our dinnertime prayer!
We know that adoption is not an easy decision. For what it is worth, our pledge to you is that we will bring this child into our family as one of our own. We will love this child with our whole hearts. We will sacrifice for this child in the same way we sacrifice for Nick and Bennett. In addition, we promise we have plenty of love, energy and capacity to do this. We are extremely confident in our ability to nurture and parent another child. We are excited to walk hand-in-hand with another child while they explore the beauty of this world. In difficult times will also be there to provide encouragement and wipe away any tears. Ultimately, we will be focused on loving and supporting our children while they chase their dreams and learn to positively contribute to this world.
If selected, we will happily send letters and pictures. In addition, we are open to a meeting prior to delivery.
Thank you again for the consideration. We wish you the best as you consider whether adoption is the right choice for you.
