Our Leisure Time

Checking Out All the Big Tractors

We enjoy spending time together in our back yard gardening, playing ball, or digging in the sandbox. We also enjoy going to the local parks. We especially enjoy going to the river where we watch the ducks and skip rocks on the water. Caleb and Joyce enjoy baking yummy treats together while Caleb and Jared love to make LEGO towers and then knock them down.

We are very active in our church community. Joyce is on the leadership team for women’s events, Jared helps out on Sunday mornings, and we also attend a weekly small group Bible study. The friends we have made through our church have become like an extended family.

There are numerous community events we like attending as a family as well. One of our favorites is when they bring large construction and farm equipment to the local park. Kids get to climb up in the seat and pretend to drive the backhoes and tractors. Caleb has a blast every year and we can’t wait to add another child to the fun!

Our Professional Lives

Joyce was an elementary special education teacher for eight years before stopping to be a stay-at-home mom. Since she was little, she has had a passion for struggling learners. She worked with about thirty students per year who came to her for additional help in reading, writing, math, and social skills. She enjoyed seeing her students regain confidence and the spark for learning. Over the years, she worked with hundreds of students, which prepared her to be a patient, understanding, and compassionate mother. She loves being able to stay at home and watch Caleb grow.

Jared has been a mechanical engineer for the past ten years. He has always had an interest in building and creating things. As a child he spent hours building and creating things with LEGOs. As a mechanical engineer, he helps design equipment that improves people’s quality of life. His job allows him generous amounts of time off and flexible hours, which allows him to spend lots of time with the family.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot

We Love Camping!

Our favorite vacation spot is the Oregon coast. We find the Pacific Ocean to be a very relaxing place where we can have quality family time without the distractions of daily life. While at the Oregon coast we enjoy visiting local shops, museums, lighthouses, and restaurants. We always go to the local candy shop and often leave with a huge bag of treats! When visiting the downtown of our favorite spot we make a stop at the bumper cars and local arcade. We enjoy hours of entertainment and laughter. There is also a local ice-cream shop that we love visiting. Our favorite thing to do, however, is to just be on the beach. We go for walks, we make sand castles, we fly kites, we splash in the waves, and we just hang out and enjoy sound of the ocean.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Our home is located in Washington State where there are over 300 days of sunshine each year. We own a warm and inviting three-bedroom, two-bath house. We have a large dining room table that we gather around and enjoy family dinners every night. Our beautiful backyard is a peaceful place with multiple flower gardens, extra-large sand box, a large raspberry patch, and many toys for children to play with.

Playing in Our Sandbox

We live in a family friendly neighborhood with a park just a three-minute walk around the corner. Neighbor kids are often playing outside in the street. We enjoy walks around our neighborhood. A new beautiful elementary school is currently under construction just blocks from our house. Our children will attend school within walking distance from home.

Our community is ever expanding and consists of a diverse population. There are many community events that we have made into yearly traditions. Our favorite spring event is when large construction and farm equipment is brought to the local park for the kids to explore. There is also an air show that we attend in the summer. We love watching the airplanes do tricks in the sky. In the winter time we have a tradition of going out for pizza dinner then watching the lighted boat parade on the river. We bundle up in our warm clothes and watch the decorated boats go by.

Our Extended Families

Donut Time with Both Grandmas

We each come from loving, nurturing, and happy homes. Joyce’s parents have been married for 42 years and Jared’s parents have been married for 41 years. Jared's family recently moved to be only ten minutes away from us, while Joyce's family is only a couple of hours away. We see our parents several times a month and Jared's parents love babysitting our son.

Joyce has two brothers and one sister-in-law. We don’t see them often, but when we do see them we have great times playing games and laughing at the stories her brothers tell. Joyce admires how her family is always willing to do anything to help someone in need.

Jared's Family

Jared has one sister and brother in-law. They live on the other side of the country, but we talk with them as much as we can and enjoying playing online games together. When we get together, we like to go on hikes and play games such as Clue. Both of our families are excited for us to pursue adoption and are eager to welcome a child to our growing family.

We also have a close-knit group of mutual friends that we have met through small groups at our church. We love to spend time with them at each other’s homes, on trips, camping, or at the beach. Our friends have been a huge support to us and we consider them to be an extension of our family.

From Us to You

We first want to thank you for having the courage, strength, and love in your heart to consider the path of adoption. We truly admire your selflessness and bravery in this decision. Having children has always been a dream of ours. Words cannot fully express how much we look forward to growing our family. We want you to know your child will have a life filled with unconditional love, laughter, support, and encouragement not only from us, but also our wonderful friends and family.

We met in 2009 through our church Bible study. We were the only single people there and instantly were attracted to each other. As we spent time together, we found out we had a lot in common. In 2011 we were married. We always knew we wanted to have a family and after finding out about infertility issues we turned to adoption to grow our family.

Since the day our son Caleb was born, he has been such a delight and joy in our lives. We were instantly in love with him from the moment we met. Caleb is a caring, energetic and passionate little guy. We know that he is going to be a loving and protective big brother. We believe that having a sibling who is also adopted will be a benefit for our children as we celebrate each of their unique adoption stories.

Our community is very diverse with different cultural backgrounds from around the World. The majority of the people in our city are Hispanic, with the remaining being Caucasian and Asian. We value the different perspectives and experiences raising a child in a multi-ethnic community brings. We are thankful our children will be able to grow up having friends that are from different backgrounds and cultures helping them to have an appreciation for the uniqueness that every person brings to society.

A significant part of our lives is our church community. Our Christian faith is important to us. We both grew up in Christian homes and are creating the same faith-based environment for our children. As a family we are involved in many aspects of our church. We help out on Sundays with child care and are also both active in the men's and women's ministries. Our church community is like our second family.

As parents we promise to provide your child with a warm and happy home filled with endless love. Our children will be taught Christian morals and values; provided opportunities to pursue their dreams; given lots of hugs; encouraged to do anything they put their mind to; provided with family dinners around the table every night; given opportunities to learn and explore; given opportunities to be creative; encouraged to express their individuality; taught kindness, respect and manners; and shown the world through first hand travel experience. Most importantly, our children will be taught about their adoption story. Adoption will continue to be celebrated in our home.

You are significant to us and always will be. We welcome your continuing investment in your child's life. We are happy to send email updates with pictures and stories, as well as letters with keepsakes that mark milestones in your child's life. We are also open to making arrangements for visits when the time is right. We are eager to know you and happy to work together to maintain a healthy relationship. We make this commitment to you, that we will always speak highly of you and honor you with our words and actions.

We are truly honored and humbled by your consideration…thank you!
