Our Family Traditions

Beautiful St. Maarten

Every spring Jonny's parents vacation in St. Maarten, an island in the Caribbean. Jonny has been going with them since he was a toddler and we still frequently travel down to meet them there every year. We play in the ocean and hang out by the pool all day long, make sand castles with nieces and nephews, and enjoy our time around his family. We always get to try some of the most amazing fresh seafood and sometimes we take a day trip to a nearby island to see new beaches and go snorkeling.

Apple Picking

Every fall Maddie's family finds a weekend to go to a nearby apple orchard. We pack a big picnic lunch and drive out all together. When we're done picking fresh apples and pears we head down to the cider press and make fresh apple cider, taking turns hauling the apples and cranking the press. Maddie's mom always makes sure to freeze one gallon of the cider to save for Christmas morning breakfast, and it's always such a treat.

What it Means to Become Parents

Jonny at a Phillies Game With His Brother & Nephews

Being a parent means laying down your life for your child. It means loving them unconditionally. It means that you, as a parent, come second and put the needs of your child before your own. It means raising them faithfully to be faithful men and women in God's world. We do not expect parenting to be easy, but we do expect to love it for all that it entails. We are ready for the sweet snuggles and giggles, the sleepless nights, and the dirty diapers. We are ready for the little league games, the sleepovers, the homework, the hard talks, and the difficult decisions. We know that parenting is hard and that we will continue to get better at it over time, but we also know that by God's grace we are ready to start this journey, and that he will surround us with all of the love and support that we need to succeed. And because of this we cannot wait to be parents.

We promise to love your baby with a love that cannot be measured, a love that cannot be described with words. We promise to laugh with your child when they go through good times and cry with your child when they go through hard times. We promise to teach your child how to play baseball and cheer for the Phillies, comfort your child when they have bad dreams, and bake gooey chocolate chips cookies with them and let them lick the spoon.

We promise to surround them with family and friends who love them unconditionally. We promise to tell them about you - how you loved them so much that you chose to carry them for nine months and then give them to us. We promise to tell them about their history and where they came from, making sure they cherish and honor their background.

Cultural Diversity

We live in a community where several of our friends have adopted children of different racial and ethnic backgrounds. We love their children and babysit them often. We love to see those parents work together to preserve their child's cultural heritage and teach their child to love and cherish it. We are so excited to do the same for your baby, and promise to teach your child that God created us all differently and loves each and every one of us for whom he made us. We will also teach your child about where they came from and who they are. Without a deep understanding of their background, your baby will not be able to stand on the shoulders of those who came before them. That is something we know your child must be able to do, and so we promise to give them the building blocks needed to do it.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a beautiful three bedroom, three bathroom house set back in a well established neighborhood within walking distance of downtown. Our home is open and airy and our large backyard is perfect for our puppy and Maddie's vegetable garden. You can see the neighborhood park from our back deck, and we love to hear kids playing down there on summer afternoons. Every Saturday morning, our town has an amazing farmer's market that we love to go to. Farmers and vendors from all over the county setup their stands and sell yummy fruits, vegetables, breakfast burritos, and crepes. Our town also has a fall carnival once a year that we love to go to. All of the kids get to dress up in costumes, bob for apples, compete in games, and win tons of candy.

Our Back Deck

We love our community here. We both work at the same company, and some of our best friends also happen to be our coworkers. Our church down the street from our house is filled with amazing friends and family. Jonny is in charge of overseeing the maintenance of our church building and Maddie helps lead the women's ministry there. One of our close friends at our church adopted an African-American baby a few years ago, and we love sitting next to them almost every single Sunday and seeing their son grow up in our community.

Our Extended Families

Jonny & His Siblings

Our families are the most important things in the world to us and we spend so much time around them. Most of our family members on both sides of the family live in the same town as we do, so we see some of our family almost every single day.

Jonny is the youngest of seven siblings and has twenty-four nieces and nephews (and counting!). We routinely get together with his family once a week to grab dinner and dessert all together. As you can imagine, there is no shortage of cousins running everywhere playing dress up, basketball, tag, and football. His parents fly in from their home in Maryland five or six times a year to spoil the grandkids and get together for huge family dinners. His mom makes us all the best crab cakes you've ever tasted in your life from fresh crab they fly out with them from Maryland.

Maddie & Her Sisters

Maddie is the second of five siblings and has four nieces and nephews. The majority of Maddie's family lives in our town and we have dinner with them a couple of times every week. Maddie's family loves to take road trips, go camping, and visit our local apple orchard to press fresh cider every fall. Maddie's mom makes the best cinnamon rolls in the world every Christmas morning while we open stockings all together, and the day after Thanksgiving we all get together to watch football and make Christmas cookies.

Our families cannot wait to meet this new little baby. The cousins cannot wait to have a new friend and playmate, the aunts and uncles cannot wait to hold them, and the grandparents cannot wait to spoil them. It's safe to say this little baby will be loved so very, very much by it's huge and wonderful family.

From Us to You

Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us better. We cannot imagine how difficult this decision must be for you, and even though we don't know you personally yet, we have been praying for you as you walk down this road. Please know that we are so impressed by your bravery and your love for your baby and will always remind your baby how much you love and care for them.

We are so excited to welcome your baby into our life, and have been excited about starting our own family since the day we met. We met seven years ago and hit it off right away. Our families are both big and tight knit so we came from similar backgrounds, and our mutual love for God and His word brought us closer together. We knew that we wanted a baby in our life very soon, and seeing our older brothers and sisters raise their children in loving homes made us even more excited to have a baby of our own. We have been ready to be parents for a long time now, and God has been leading us right toward adoption through all of our years of infertility.

We are both constantly around children in our community. Nieces and nephews love to play tag and basketball with "Uncle Jonny" and tea party with "Auntie Maddie." We've also spent a lot of time around friends in our community who have adopted. Seeing how they parent and love their babies has been amazing for us to watch. Our community is such a perfect spot to raise a baby and your baby would be surrounded on all sides with friends and family who love them more than they love themselves.

We cannot tell you how excited we are to meet you and your baby. Not only us, but our entire extended family is giddy at the thought of welcoming your baby into our family and loving your baby so very much. We can't wait to snuggle with them, change their stinky diapers, teach them how to throw a football, make them birthday cakes, teach them how to blow kisses, support them, and love them with a love that cannot be measured. Most importantly, we are so excited to teach them how to love the Lord and follow His paths in all their ways.

We know that you love your baby so much, and we promise to always make sure that they know just how much you love them. We would be honored if you would like to be involved in your baby's life as they grow up. Whether this is via email, letters, us sending pictures to you, texts, or phone calls, we are open to communication throughout your baby's life so that you will always have a connection with them. We want your baby to know their background and where they come from, and this will play a significant role in your baby's life as we raise them.

Please know that we are praying for you as you make this decision. We are also praying for your baby, that they will be placed with a family who will give them all that you dream of. We would be honored if you chose us to be that family. We know that by God's grace we would love your baby beyond measure and provide them with a safe, supportive, and joyful home.
