Adoption in Our Lives

Our Family

We adopted our only child and it was the best decision we ever made, so it is a natural decision for us to adopt again. We adopted our son a little over a year ago and we had an incredible, life-changing experience with his adoption. We both always wanted a family and we started trying to have a child a few years after getting married, however, we weren't successful. We believed that everything happened for a reason and decided that adoption was the avenue that was meant for us to have a family. We were fortunate enough to have been able to be at the hospital shortly after our son was born and we got the amazing opportunity to spend time with our son's birth mom. We love and respect our son's birth mom more than words can express, and we admire her bravery and selflessness. We feel incredibly blessed that she chose us to be the parents for her child. We regularly send her updates and photos and keep in touch. We can't imagine our lives without our son and wouldn't change how we became a family. We are teaching our son about adoption through books that we read to him on a regular basis. We have also started a scrapbook so one day he can look back at his adoption story. We want our children to understand what adoption is and how all families are different and loved regardless of how a family is formed. Love is what makes a family and we love our son more than anything in this world. We could not be more excited to adopt again and look forward to loving and raising another child in our family.

Our Leisure Time

Ron Paddleboarding

We are active as much as possible and look forward to having our children experience and share in all the activities we enjoy. We enjoy going to the beach, stand-up paddle boarding and taking walks on the beach at sunset. We also enjoy hiking local trails in Southern California, and we try to find hikes whenever we travel. Themis is an avid yoga practitioner and Ron spends his leisure time running, mountain biking, playing the acoustic guitar, and building things with wood.

Fun at the Beach

Ron is a Army veteran and we celebrate his service and the service of all our veterans on Veterans Day. We like participating in Veterans 5k races and attending charitable events for the veterans.

As a family, we love to go to the zoo and parks with our son. We also love to play board games with our immediate and extended family. We often have game nights at Themis’ parents’ house on the weekends. We also enjoy teaching our son to swim, read, travel taking him to music classes and play dates with his cousins and other kids his age.

Our Family Traditions

Beautiful Views in the Greek Isles

We have many cherished family traditions. During Thanksgiving and Christmas we usually share and alternate the holidays between California and Rhode Island so that we can spend time with both sides of our family. One of our favorite traditions is opening our presents on Christmas Day and then spending all day snacking and playing board games as a family, including an epic game of Monopoly!

We love to travel, one of our traditions is to spend several weeks in Greece with Themis’s family at least every other year. There is always some holiday, festival, wedding, baptism or other event when we go to Greece, so we always enjoy sharing in the celebrations. While we are in Greece we also go to the Greek Islands to enjoy the local culture, cuisine and beaches.

Other family traditions include, long Sunday morning family walks with our dog Oia, weekend family dinners, game nights, and movies with the whole family, decorating our house for every holiday, and going to baseball games in the summer.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in beautiful, sunny southern California. We are so lucky not only to live close to family, but also to live in a beautiful city in the middle of extraordinary natural elements. We purchased our home a few years ago and we couldn’t be happier with our home and our neighborhood. We have four bedrooms, a large sunny living room and two large decks that overlook a peaceful canyon. Our home is newly built on a street that is tucked away and very quiet. It is a very contemporary style, with the most modern amenities and high-tech features. We are enjoying making our home a cozy nest and have a room set aside for the nursery.

Our neighborhood is very close knit, with neighbors that know each other and look out for one another. Our community has parks, schools and natural canyons filled with magnificent trees and songbirds. We are also only a 10-minute drive from the beach and spectacular bays. We enjoy taking walks on the beach, swimming and paddle boarding on weekends.

There are many young couples and families in our neighborhood and we think it is a perfect place to raise a child. We purposely bought a home that is larger than what we need so that we have room to expand our growing family. Our favorite place to be in our house is sitting on our back deck, enjoying a meal outside and taking in the trees, sunset and sounds of our canyon.

Our Extended Families

At the Beach With Family

Themis has a large extended family, both here in California and in Greece (think My Big Fat Greek Wedding big!). Themis’ mom and dad live a few minutes away and Themis’ brother, sister-in-law, nephew and niece live half a mile away. Themis also has many aunts, uncles and cousins that live in southern California. It is such a blessing to have so many members of our immediate family surrounding us.

Time With Cousins

Ron’s immediate and extended family is in Rhode Island and we go to Rhode Island a couple times a year to visit and spend holidays. Ron's parents also travel to California several times a year to visit us.

We enjoy getting together with Themis’ immediate family for family meals at least once a week and we love playing board games when we get together. We take our niece/goddaughter to church on Sundays and love spending time with her and our nephew.

Our families are excited about our desire to adopt again and grow our family and they can't wait to welcome another child into our family.

From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about us. We hope to get the opportunity to get to know you if you select us. We want you to know that we respect and admire you for your strength and selflessness in considering adoption.

Our names are Themis and Ron and we have been married for seven and a half years. We have been together for a total of 10 years. Themis is an attorney and Ron is a small business owner in the IT industry. We adopted our amazing son, Athan, a little over a year ago. We love being parents more than anything.

We live down the road from Themis’ brother, sister-in-law, niece, nephew and Themis’ parents. Themis also has a lot of extended family in Southern California. We love being close to family and we are so blessed to have so much family surrounding us.

We take our son to the zoo, museums, parks and on daily family walks. He is very active and we have fun exploring new activities that he enjoys. In addition to our family time, we enjoy being active and staying physically fit. We enjoy going for hikes, swimming and paddle boarding at the beach and we enjoying taking our dog for walks on the beach at sunset. We go skiing almost every year and we look forward to sharing our active lifestyle with our children and discovering the activities they may become passionate about.

One of our favorite things to do is to travel. We love to go to new places, experience new cultures and food and we have been very fortunate to travel the world together. We can’t wait to travel more with our children and show them the beauty and joys that exist in this amazing world of ours. Themis has a large, extended family in Greece, so we travel to Greece often to spend time with family there. Greek culture and heritage are an important part of our lives and we celebrate many of the Greek holidays, traditions and customs. We look forward to sharing all of this with our children and also learning about and sharing their cultural heritage. Our son has a different cultural heritage than we do and we plan on teaching him about his heritage and traveling with him to experience his cultural heritage.

Ron is from Rhode Island, so we go back to the East Coast to visit his side of the family a couple times a year. Both of our families are very supportive of our plan to adopt again and are incredibly excited to welcome a new baby into our large and loving family!

We want nothing more than to grow our family and give love to another child. We tried unsuccessfully for years to have a child and we decided that adoption was the path for us. It was the best decision we ever made. Our son is incredible and we couldn't imagine our lives without him. In addition to our son, we have adoption on both sides of our family and we have dear friends who are adopted, so it is a natural and familiar choice for us.

We promise that we will give our children all of the love we have, to be there for them, no matter what and to support them emotionally, spiritually, financially and to protect them always. We will help them discover and develop their natural talents and provide them with the opportunity to pursue their passions. We cannot think of anything more rewarding in this world than to be parents and help raise good, kind, strong, loving human beings who will be productive members of our society and a beacon of goodness and light.

We hope this short letter gives you a little glimpse into who we are and how excited we are to grow our family! Thank you for taking the time to consider us. We look forward to sharing pictures and updates with you on a regular basis so that you always have a connection with your child. We wish you the best in your journey, wherever it may lead you.

With love and respect,

Ron & Themis
