Cody & Dana

Of all the adventures we've taken, starting a family will be our greatest. We are excited to grow our family through adoption and experience all of the "firsts" that come with being new parents. To us, family means sharing love, providing guidance and navigating through this life together. We can't wait to share our love of family/friends, our appreciation of the outdoors and our joy of traveling with a little one. We invite you to join us in this adventure.

Our Leisure Time

Hiking in the Alps

When school's not in session, we can be found traveling the world. From backpacking in Europe to camping in Maine, we love experiencing new places, trying unique foods and appreciating other cultures. Recently, our favorite thing to do together is travel in our camper. We love seeing new parks, hiking new trails and taking in all the views that nature has to offer. We hope to make it to all the states in our camper. At home, we can be found reading, cooking and spending time with our dog, Josie.

We Love Our Camper!

Dana enjoys running and yoga. On many weekends, Cody can be found at a wrestling meet or rock climbing in the woods of North Carolina.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Family Photo

Cody About Dana: I am so fortunate to have met Dana and to be able to call her my partner in life. Dana leads by example through her dedication to family and friends, along with the goals that she sets for herself. Dana is an amazing role model, wife, and future mother. She is always challenging herself in new ways, from 100 mile runs, to pursuing a yoga teaching certificate, to volunteering in the community. I love all of these characteristics about her and feel honored to be going through this journey of life together.

Dana About Cody: Cody has a magnetic personality and a great sense of humor. He brings so much energy and joy to every person with whom he interacts. Cody has a way of seeing the good in everyone and making every situation an adventure. It is what makes him an excellent teacher, a wonderful husband and will one day will make him a great father.

How We Met

We met in college while living down the hall from each other but didn't really get to know each other until the following year when Dana locked herself out of her house with no roommates or landlord in town. Cody came to the rescue by climbing on top of his car, jumping onto the roof, cutting out her bedroom screen window, crawling in and then preceding to unlock her front door! From that point on, Cody continued to try to impress Dana by luring her away from her pharmacy studies with promises of ice cream. It worked! We started dating two weeks before Cody accepted a teaching job 500 miles away and when Dana graduated from pharmacy school, she accepted a job in the same city. Over the next five years, we went from living across the United States, to across the same city, to across the street, to across the parking lot and finally to living in the same apartment and getting married. We have now been married for 7 years and been together for a total of 12.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in an urban neighborhood with a lot of small children and young families. Our neighborhood holds monthly block parties with pizza and outdoor movies for the kids. There is also a Halloween costume parade for the younger ones before trick or treating begins. We live very close to downtown and enjoy walking to museums, restaurants and festivals. We are close to two college campuses and during fall nights we can hear the local college bands during football games.

Neighborhood Park

We have a brand new elementary school one block from our home. Dana looks forward to walking a child to school every day. We are fortunate enough to also have two parks with playgrounds, baseball fields, basketball courts, bike trails and a greenway system within a five-minute walk of our home.

We live in a 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath house with a garage and backyard that backs up to woods. Cody looks forward to playing catch in the backyard with a child. We love being part of our community and our city routinely makes the "Best Places to Live and Raise a Family" list.

Our Extended Families

Dana's Family

We both come from very close families and family has always been important to each of us. We have many family traditions, the most memorable being annual beach vacations and celebrating the holidays together.

Cody's Family

Last summer, we spent a week at the beach with Dana's family paddle boarding, dolphin watching and putting together a puzzle that took eighty hours to complete! We recently spent two weeks on a cruise touring New England and Canada with Cody's family. Together we enjoyed food tours, explored new cities and played nightly rounds of Heads Up. During holidays, we look forward to spending time together playing cards, playing Rummikubs, watching Ohio State football games, doing chores on the family farm and preparing family meals.

We are fortunate to have Cody's brother, our sister-in-law and our baby niece in town. We see them regularly and look forward to having cousins grow up together. Our families are overjoyed to be welcoming a child into their lives. Between Cody and Dana's families combined, this child will be the second grandchild, which means we have grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all anxiously awaiting his or her arrival!

From Us to You

Family has been our guiding principle since we began dating in 2008. Early on in our relationship, we discussed our desire for a family of our own and how that family would look. We pictured ourselves having a larger family, comprised of biological and adopted children. Over the last few years and with the addition of our puppy, Josie, we have been reminded of this vision, and have begun our journey into adoption. Family is not only the people with whom you share bloodlines; a family is one you make, the one you create and the one you choose.

We moved to North Carolina after Cody accepted a teaching position and Dana graduated from pharmacy school. We were married in 2013 and over time have come to value the importance of experiences over material things. With this in mind, we have found joy in the adventures that life brings, both big and small. We have traveled the world together, including backpacking in Europe, climbing volcanoes in South America, and traveling across the United States in our camper. Daily adventures include preparing meals, playing with Josie and supporting each other in our endeavors.

We are very much looking forward to becoming first-time parents. We can't wait to share the rich experiences of adventure, culture and education, that come along with traveling and being outdoors. We look forward to having a little one exploring the world with us and seeing the world for the first time through their eyes. We plan to continue our nightly tradition of preparing family dinners, with our new sous chef. We are excited to walk the child to school, play on the playground, and watch the bond between a child and a dog grow.

This child will be the second grandchild between both sides of our families, so there is a lot of excitement for their arrival! There are two sets of grandparents, a lot of aunts and uncles, and one very excited 7-month old cousin looking forward to their appearance. We can't wait to all be together on annual family vacations and during the holidays. We look forward to the child growing up with cousins nearby, as built in best friends.

We are committed to providing a child with a loving and caring home with two parents that will provide continuous love and support. We will help mold this child into a productive member of society while instilling values that are important to us. We look forward to being the child's number one fans during future sporting events, recitals and performances, and look forward to helping the child find his or her passions in life.

From day one, this child will know that he or she was adopted and we look forward to openly and honestly sharing the child's adoption story with them. The child will know that decisions made by both birth parents and adoptive parents were made out of love. We will continue to build a relationship with the child's birth family through letters, pictures, emails, phone calls and visits if and when the time is right. This child will always know of the joy and excitement that has been brought into our lives through their adoption. We will always be grateful for you and your selflessness in making this decision.
