Jeff & Becca
We are overjoyed to be on this journey to adoption. We feel so blessed to have this opportunity to grow our family and are immensely grateful for the opportunity made possible by your strength, courage, and grace. Thank you for taking the time to (virtually!) get to know us a little better and for considering us.
Our Leisure Time
We enjoy a number of activities in our down time, including cooking, volunteering, and traveling. We often try new recipes and enjoy hosting our family for dinners and holidays to share our new recipes. Jeff enjoys working on small projects around the house in his down time and Becca frequently uses her down time to donate her graphic design talent to local nonprofits. We also volunteer each month at our Church cooking for local shelters throughout our community.
We both enjoy watching and playing sports and look forward to sharing that simple joy with our child. In fact, some of our first dates took place after games of flag football—we played on a local league with friends from work and instantly connected over our love of being active and playing sports. Over the years, we've traveled to see our favorite teams play—meeting-up with various friends and family members in cities as we go.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Becca About Jeff:
Jeff is extremely thoughtful. Whether a small act of love in our marriage or going out of his way to support a colleague, friend or family member—Jeff is attentive and meaningful in his interactions. He is a great listener and has the ability to make you feel heard and understood without judgment. Jeff graciously gives unconditional love, reassuring advice and encouragement. Jeff has an exceptional work ethic that is balanced by his understanding of the importance of family time. Our child will be blessed to be unconditionally loved and supported by Jeff and to see the world with the perspective and gratitude that he does.
Jeff About Becca:
Becca is a generous spirit, filled with love and kindness. She is selfless in so many ways, always putting the needs, interests, and desires of others before her own. She'll donate her creative talent to others, give her meal to someone in need, or simply pour the last cup of coffee for someone else. Becca is a gentle soul with a playful nature, never failing to appreciate a moment, make others laugh with her, and excels at making others feel comfortable. Our child will be so lucky to share in Becca’s amazing creative talent and will learn from her gentle nature, ultimately seeing the wonder and beauty in others, just like their mother does.
Education We will Provide
We are excited to create a home that includes a love for learning and an education that is well-rounded and meaningful. We were both raised in houses where our moms were public school teachers and we were fortunate to have the support of our parents when we went off to college. We want our children to enjoy learning and to have the opportunity to experience many types of educational opportunities. We envision our child attending pre-k, kindergarten and elementary school in a public or catholic school and likely attending a high school that exposes them to opportunities of all types. We also expect to raise our child with the opportunity to participate in different activities including sports, band, theatre or other activities that will help to become a well-rounded student in preparation for their time after high school. We plan to support our children’s desire to continue their education either in college, trade school or other schooling after high school as well.
Our Extended Families
We are fortunate that we live near our family members, specifically Becca’s brother is just 20 miles away. We enjoy getting together for Saturday morning breakfast which usually consists of hot donuts from some of our favorite local spots. Jeff’s parents and siblings are just a little over two hours away, as is Becca's mom, so we often take a “mini roadtrip” to get together at least once a month. The distance is a great excuse for family sleepovers which usually consists of sharing delicious meals around the table, playing board games, and watching movies while all piled on the couch together.
Our extended family is equally as excited as we are to welcome another family member through adoption. In fact, one of Jeff’s nieces was so excited that she researched and wrote a list of 100 potential names for us just after we shared the news with our families. We are both extremely fortunate to have always had very close, loving, and supporting families and their role in our adoption journey has been no different. It is very meaningful to us to have the support of our families in many different ways—from gathering family photos for our profile, to being on-call to help coordinate potential travel, to helping with all the details to come as we welcome a new family member into our immediate and our wonderful extended family.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a cobblestone-street, tree-lined, historic community in Maryland. Our neighborhood is a mix of new and old homes and has many families with young children as well as older residents that have moved back to the community for retirement. We live just around the block from two parks and a community pool for families to cool off in the summer. Throughout the year we enjoy walking to a number of events in a nearby waterfront area including an adorable Christmas village complete with hot chocolate stands and an ice-skating rink, a 4th of July parade and fireworks, a book festival and a light show festival. One of the nearby parks also does summer "Movie Nights" on the lawn and everyone brings blankets, snacks, kiddos and usually their four-legged friends to enjoy the show.
Our two-bedroom home is quaint and cozy—we like to call it our little retreat. We enjoy spending Friday nights by our fireplace and are often found cooking up something together in the kitchen. We can’t wait to add the pitter-patter of little feet to our home!
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to read our profile. We appreciate the chance to tell you more about our journey to adoption and our hopes for our family.
We both come from wonderfully loving families and have fond memories of our childhoods filled with family vacations, lots of play dates with siblings and cousins, and abundant joy and laughter—so much laughter! That joy and laughter has only multiplied as our families continue to grow. It has been an incredible blessing to watch our siblings grow their families and to see our parents become admiring, googly-eyed grandparents. We love every second of being Aunt Becca and Uncle Jeff to nine wonderful nieces and nephews and after three years of marriage, we are overjoyed to be on this journey to adoption.
Shortly after we began dating we discussed our desires to have a family and to do so by welcoming a child through adoption. Growing our family through adoption is a result of both of our long-held desires to adopt and also the reality that Jeff was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as an infant. CF has blessed us with a clarifying and a grateful perspective on our lives and the many blessings we have been given—especially, the incredible medical care which has helped Jeff to live not just a normal, but a thriving and healthy life. As we prepared to write this letter, we were unsure if we should share the details of Jeff’s disease, but the reality is that it has formed who Jeff is and has played an important role in our lives and our marriage. We often share that CF has brought an extraordinary perspective to our lives—one that our child will be so lucky to share and learn from as well.
Much like Jeff, Becca shares a gratitude for life that has contributed to her perspective and character as well—losing her Dad at 12-years-old to cancer has shaped Becca into the strong, faith-filled and compassionate daughter, sister, aunt, wife and hopeful mother that she is today.
While these are just two stories of our individual lives, we share them with you because they contribute to our sincere belief that our child will grow to learn, love, and share their own individual and unique story as well. This includes the role your decision played in their story. We hold every person’s story in high regard and we would be honored to ensure that your story holds a place in our son or daughters heart. We look forward to sharing letters and pictures with you as our family grows as well as sharing your story with our child as they grow.
We so appreciate that you have taken the time to read our letter and learn more about our journey. We are equally honored that you would consider us and our home that is rooted in faith and love. We are deeply committed to ensuring that our child is raised in a house that honors their story, develops their skills and cultivates their gifts while always providing an abundance of encouragement and support.
These are just a few of the things we value as a family, we hope to share the many others with you!
